A second opinion of Justin Verlander's MRI results confirmed the initial diagnosis of a triceps strain.
Verlander remains shut down from throwing due to lingering soreness in the upper part of his throwing arm and he won't be cleared for catch until he's completely discomfort-free. The veteran right-hander seems unlikely to join the Tigers' rotation before the end of May. Kyle Lobstein has been filling in.
Phillies prospect Tom Windle bounced back with a strong outing Sunday for Double-A Reading.
Windle quieted Harrisburg with seven innings of two-hit ball. The left-hander finished with a season-best nine strikeouts. This outing represents a major improvement for Windle, who let up a combined 18 hits during his first two starts. The 23-year-old was acquired from the Dodgers this offseason as part of the Jimmy Rollins trade.
Brandon Moss is not in the Indians' lineup Monday against the Royals.
Ryan Raburn will be at DH and Jerry Sands will play left field with Kansas City throwing left-hander Jason Vargas. Moss is available off the bench for the Tribe.
Nationals prospect Wilmer Difo collected three hits Sunday for High-A Potomac.
He finished the doubleheader 3-for-6 with four RBI. The 23-year-old has swung a hot bat all season, hitting .323 with a .966 OPS in 17 appearances. Difo saw time at both middle infield positions last year but has only played shortstop in 2015. The versatile talent also has a nice set of wheels, having stolen four bases on five attempts this year.
Mike Napoli is not in the Red Sox starting lineup on Monday night against the Blue Jays.
Napoli slugged his first home run of the season Saturday night at Camden Yards, but he followed that up with an 0-for-5 and two strikeouts in Sunday's series finale. The 33-year-old is batting just .169 with a .542 OPS in 18 games this season. Daniel Nava is at first base and Brock Holt is in right field Monday versus Toronto.
L.J. Hoes will be called up on Monday.
And right-hander Asher Wojciechowski will be sent to Triple-A Fresno to open up a 25-man roster spot. Houston wants an extra position player for its three-game series in San Diego, a National League stadium. Hoes will probably be shipped back to Fresno on Thursday.
Javy Guerra (shoulder) is scheduled to being a rehab assignment Monday with Triple-A Charlotte.
Guerra has been sidelined since April 13 with mild inflammation in his right shoulder. He had rattled off three straight scoreless appearances for the White Sox before landing on the disabled list and should be ready return to Chicago's bullpen later this week.
White Sox sent LHP Eric Surkamp outright to Triple-A Charlotte.
The 27-year-old left-hander was designated for assignment over the weekend to clear a roster spot for Scott Carroll. Surkamp owns a 6.20 career ERA in the majors.
