Pinch-hitter Mike Carp singled in Daniel Nava in the bottom of the 10th to give the Red Sox a second straight walkoff win over the White Sox on Thursday.

Carp's single off Ronald Belisario was his first hit since he came off the disabled list Monday. He had been hitless in 17 at-bats since May 22. The Red Sox will continue to employ him primarily as a pinch-hitter unless someone wants to trade for him and give him an expanded role.

Jon Lester fanned 12 while allowing one run in seven innings Thursday against the White Sox.

Lester left with a two-run lead, but that was blown by Koji Uehara in the ninth. It was Lester's third game with at least 12 strikeouts this season (only David Price has as many), and he has a 1.01 ERA over his last six starts.

Despite surrendering just two hits, Jose Quintana gave up three runs in seven innings Thursday against the Red Sox.

Quintana was perfect for five innings before giving up two walks and two hits in the three-run sixth. He then came back with a flawless seventh. Unfortunately, the one shaky inning was enough to cost him a chance at a win today.

Tyler Flowers is 1-for-25 in July after going hitless in four at-bats Thursday.

The White Sox will certainly be on the looking for a possible catcher of the future if they do any selling this month. Since his incredible April in which he hit .367 (that'd be like a decent hitter batting .600), he's gone 24-for-168 (.149) with 71 strikeouts.

Danny Santana (knee) will begin a rehab assignment at High-A Fort Myers this weekend.

It's good news for the Twins as they head into the All-Star break. Assuming all goes well during the rehab assignment, Santana seems likely to be ready for activation at the beginning of the second half. Santana was batting .328/.366/.448 batting line with two homers, 16 RBI and six steals over 37 games before suffering a left knee bone bruise.
Jul 10 - 7:22 PM

Homer Bailey (knee) is expected to make his first start after the All-Star break.

Bailey exited Thursday's contest with pain in his right patellar tendon, but he's expected to be fine. "The timing's good. We can put him on the back end of the rotation coming out of the All-Star break," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It sounds like he should be good to go by that time."

All-Star Scott Kazmir blanked the Giants for seven innings, striking out nine, in a victory Thursday.

Kazmir allowed just three hits for the second straight start. It's the fifth time this year that he's pitched at least five innings and allowed no more than three hits. Only Chris Young, with seven such outings, has more among American League starters.

Justin Morneau has been selected as the final participant for the National League in next week's Home Run Derby.

Morneau lost out to Anthony Rizzo in the Final Vote, but he'll at least get to go back to Minnesota in another capacity. The Rockies' first baseman is a former Derby champ, having won the year Josh Hamilton put on a show at Yankee Stadium. Morneau is joined by teammate Troy Tulowitzki, Todd Frazier, Yasiel Puig and Giancarlo Stanton in the NL. The American League will go with Jose Bautista, Adam Jones, Brian Dozier, Yoenis Cespedes and Josh Donaldson.
