Mariners acquired RHP Jose Ramirez from the Yankees in the Dustin Ackley deal.

The 25-year-old Ramirez has appeared in 11 games with the Yankees over the past two seasons and owns a 2.90 ERA and 56/23 K/BB ratio in 49 2/3 innings this season in Triple-A. He could be a bullpen piece for Seattle.

Mariners acquired OF Ramon Flores and RHP Jose Ramirez from the Yankees for OF/INF Dustin Ackley.

Flores has appeared in 12 games with the Yankees this season and owns a solid .286/.377/.417 batting line over 73 games in Triple-A. The 23-year-old could be a useful bench piece for Seattle.

Yankees acquired OF/INF Dustin Ackley from the Mariners for OF Ramon Flores and RHP Jose Ramirez.

The Mariners selected Ackley with the No. 2 overall pick in 2009, but things never quite came together for him in Seattle, as he produced a disappointing .243/.306/.366 batting line over 584 games. The Yankees will have to hope that the change of scenery will make a difference for him. He could be a possibility to get some looks at second base over Stephen Drew.

Braves recalled RHP Ryan Kelly from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Kelly has been up and down a couple of times this season but has worked only 2 2/3 total innings. The 27-year-old right-hander will pitch in a middle relief role.

Braves recalled RHP Jacob Brigham from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Brigham allowed six runs over 9 2/3 innings of relief earlier this season with the big league club. The 27-year-old right-hander will pitch in low-leverage situations.
Jul 30 - 4:55 PM

Braves purchased the contract of LHP Matt Marksberry from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Marksberry is one of the three players joining the Braves on Thursday in the wake of the team's big trade with the Dodgers and Marlins. The 24-year-old left-hander has posted a 2.74 ERA this season in 46 minor league innings.
Jul 30 - 4:54 PM

Phillies activated RHP Aaron Harang from the 15-day disabled list.

He'll take the roster spot of Jonathan Papelbon, who was dealt to the Nationals this week. Harang was originally slated to make a minor league rehab start Wednesday, but he'll actually make his return Thursday against the Braves. The veteran right-hander has been out for nearly a month with plantar fasciitis.

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak announced Thursday that Matt Holliday has a Grade 2 strain of his right quadriceps.

It's a recurrence of the very same injury Holliday suffered back in June. While he's looking at another extended absence, Mozeliak is "optimistic" that he'll play again before the end of the regular season. Stephen Piscotty will likely take over as the primary left fielder during his absence, though the Cardinals have options after Thursday's acquisition of Brandon Moss.
