Tommy Joseph had a homer in the seventh and a walkoff single in the 11th to give the Phillies a 2-1 victory over the Rockies on Thursday.

Aaron Altherr has been the Phillies' best hitter this year, but Joseph has been the best his month; he's hitting .333 with seven homers in May. It makes one wonder why he was hitting sixth today behind three hitters with OPSs in the .600s.

Collin McHugh (elbow) threw off a mound on Thursday.

Vince Velasquez fanned seven while allowing one run over five innings Thursday against the Rockies.

Hopefully, this was a step forward, though the Rockies lineup is the game's most overrated right now (subtract Coors from the equation and it's the pitching that's carried the team this year). Volquez threw 70 of 94 pitches for strikes, which is exactly what he needs to do to keep improving an ERA that stood at 5.98 coming into this one. It'd have been nice if he could have pitched a little deeper into the game, but the Phillies pen picked him up with six scoreless innings afterwards.

Travis Shaw is not in the Brewers' lineup Thursday against the Diamondbacks.

May 25 - 5:15 PM

Nick Castellanos is not in the Tigers' lineup Thursday against the Astros.

May 25 - 5:13 PM

Tyler Anderson pitched seven innings of one-run ball Thursday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

If Jon Gray had been healthy, we wonder if the Rockies might have sent Anderson down at the end of April with his ERA at 7.71 and no starts of even six innings in length. He's been far better this month, allowing a total of seven earned runs in 24 2/3 innings. He's struck out 32 in four starts in May after totaling 24 in six in April.
May 25 - 5:09 PM

Odubel Herrera struck out all five times he was up Thursday against the Rockies.

Pete Mackanin seems plenty frustrated with both Herrera and Maikel Franco, not that it stopped him from batting them third and fourth, respectively, in this one. Herrera is 7-for-46 with no runs scored, no RBI and an 18/0 K/BB ratio over 51 at-bats in his last 13 games. He's still a good bet in mixed leagues the rest of the way, but we wouldn't be surprised if he sits out a game or two after this.
May 25 - 5:02 PM

Mark Reynolds, who was out of the lineup the last two games, went 0-for-4 before being removed from Thursday's game against the Phillies.

No injuries were reported for Reynolds, but the Rockies used Gerardo Parra over him in back-to-back games before returning him to the lineup today. Reynolds is without an extra-base hit in his last 10 games, though he's still driven in eight runs with nine hits during that span. His OPS, which was as high as 1.092 on May 10, is down to .948 now.
