Albert Pujols will be a participant in the Home Run Derby.

Pujols has crushed 25 bombs thus far, after hitting 28 all of last season. It will be interesting to see if he can sustain this power barrage through the second half of the season. We don't subscribe to theories like the Madden Curse, but there have been several instances of players who have entered the home run derby and seen their power legitimately drop off after the All-Star Break, though whether there's an actual correlation, rather than simply a perceived one, is more difficult to determine.

Matt Holliday (quad) took part in some running drills on Tuesday.

Holliday would have been ready to do these drills on Monday, but he came down with an apparent illness that set him back a day. If he doesn't come back before the All-Star Break, he should be ready to go once the festivities have ended.
Jul 7 - 5:30 PM

Coco Crisp (neck) has passed his kidney stones.

Crisp is also dealing with a neck injury, but at least one part of the injury equation has been solved. He could rejoin the A's after the All-Star Break, but it's very difficult to say with a player as injury-prone as Crisp.
Jul 7 - 5:25 PM

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) played catch from 60-feet on Monday.

This was expected as he works his way back from a strained left shoulder. Doolittle been stuck on the DL for most of the season. He made one appearance on May 27 before hitting the disabled list for a second time. If all goes well in his rehab, a return in late July or early August is on the table.
Jul 7 - 5:22 PM

Aaron Sanchez (lat) allowed two runs on three hits with one strikeout over two innings of rehab work in the GCL.

Sanchez was placed on the disabled list with a mild right lat straight on June 14. He's close to a return, though the team has not yet announced whether the 23-year-old right-hander will work in a rotation role or a bullpen role when he's healthy.
Jul 7 - 5:17 PM

Kolten Wong (head) passed a concussion test after suffering a head injury in Tuesday afternoon's contest with the Cubs.

Wong appeared to injure himself making a diving play in the fifth inning. After being lifted in the seventh, he passed the concussion test, though afterward said that he still has a slight headache. The Cubs and Cards are playing a double-header and it's a safe assumption that Wong will sit out the second game here. Matt Carpenter will likely start at second in his place.
Jul 7 - 5:06 PM

Astros manager A.J. Hinch indicated that Luis Valbuena (toe) could see action in this week's Indians series.

Said action will not be coming on Tuesday unless it's as a pinch-hitter, as Valbuena is not listed in the starting lineup. He's now missed two in a row as he nurses a sprained left big toe. The Astros will play the Indians through Thursday.
Jul 7 - 5:00 PM

Chad Qualls (neck) will appear in a game for Double-A Corpus Christi on Tuesday in preparation for his activation from the disabled list.

As a veteran reliever, Qualls won't need a lengthy rehab stint and Tuesday's Double-A appearance could well be the only one he makes before rejoining the big club. He's eligible to return from the disabled list on Friday.
