Daniel Mengden will go for an MRI on his right foot on Monday.

Mengden left Saturday's start against the White Sox after just two innings due to a right foot sprain. He hasn't been placed on the disabled list just yet, but more should be know after Monday's exam.

Trevor Cahill (Achilles) could start throwing in the next few days.

Cahill landed on the disabled list earlier this month with a strained right Achillies, but he's moving in the right direction. Still, his absence will stretch into July. Cahill has been a nice find in his return to Oakland this season, posting a 2.77 ERA over eight starts.

Tigers signed No. 1 overall pick RHP Casey Mize.

The Tigers were set to make it official with a press conference Monday. According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, Mize will receive a $7.5 million bonus. While that's a new record under the current bonus pool rules, the deal is still $596,300 under the slot value for the pick. That means the Tigers can use that savings with some of their other picks, if they so choose. As for Mize, he was the easy choice for the No. 1 pick and immediately becomes the top prospect in Detroit's system. The ingredients for a frontline starter are here and he could make it to the majors rather quickly.

Mike Trout (finger) will serve as the designated hitter again Monday against the Royals.

It will be his sixth straight start out of the DH spot as he nurses a sprained right index finger. He's hoping to return to the field soon. Chris Young will start in center field.

Mike Moustakas is not in Monday's lineup against the Angels.

It sounds like a routine day of rest. Alcides Escobar is slated to make his first ever start at third base.

Athletics purchased the contract of RHP Edwin Jackson from Triple-A Nashville.

Jackson is being called up to make the start Monday against the Tigers. The 34-year-old signed a minor league deal with Oakland earlier this month after opting out of his deal with the Nationals. He posted a 4.02 ERA over three starts in Triple-A. The A's will be the 13th team he's played for in his career.

Athletics activated LHP Ryan Buchter from the 10-day disabled list.

Buchter ended up missing two months with a left shoulder strain. He returns to a 1.69 ERA over 10 2/3 innings.

Gary Sanchez (groin) will be placed on the disabled list.

The Yankees have yet to make an official announcement, but Jon Morosi of MLB Network hears that Kyle Higashioka will replace Sanchez on the active roster. Sanchez left Sunday's game with a groin injury, but we should know more about the severity following MRI results.
