Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reports that Andrew Heaney has damage to his left ulnar collateral ligament.

Heaney was diagnosed with a flexor muscle strain after he was placed on the disabled list following his first start of the season, but Passan hears the injury is worse than that. The left-hander has been given a platelet-rich plasma injection and will attempt to rehab the injury initially, although it's far from a given that he'll be able to accomplish that. It's been a rotten day for injuries for the Angels, as Passan has also reported that Garrett Richards is headed for Tommy John surgery.

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reports that Garrett Richards has a torn right ulnar collateral ligament and is expected to need Tommy John surgery.

Multiple other outlets have confirmed the report. The Angels cited fatigue and dehydration when they scratched Richards from Friday's scheduled start versus the Rays, but Passan says they found the UCL tear while examining the righty on Thursday. It's absolutely brutal news for the club, as Richards is far and away their best starter. He would be sidelined until around midseason next year. Passan says that Andrew Heaney has UCL damage, too, but will try to rehab the injury for now. The Angels should have an update on their pitchers later Friday.

Nick Hundley (oblique) will be re-evaluated Friday before the Rockies determine whether he'll need a stint on the disabled list.

Hundley tweaked his left oblique during batting practice Thursday and had to be scratched from the lineup. "I've been feeling good physically, so it's frustrating on that end," Hundley said Thursday. "I'll have to check and see how it feels tomorrow. I cut batting practice a little bit short and I was going to go until it got worse." Dustin Garneau will be recalled if Hundley goes on the DL and he'd be in line to share time behind the plate with Tony Wolters.

Brett Gardner (elbow) hopes to be back in the lineup on Friday.

Gardner didn't start Thursday after being hit on the right elbow by a pitch Wednesday, although he did appear as a pinch-runner and stole a base. "I’d say it’s about the same," said Gardner. "I was able to sleep in kind of an awkward position and keep it elevated for the most part most of the night, so I think that helped out."

Indians manager Terry Francona revealed Thursday that Craig Stammen (elbow) "was pretty much shut down for most of April."

Francona added that Stammen "just wasn't bouncing back as well as he'd hoped" as he makes his way back from flexor tendon surgery. Stammen is playing catch from 120 feet again and doing well for the time being, but it doesn't sound like he'll be an option for the Tribe anytime soon. The veteran right was signed to a minor league deal in February.

Royals optioned OF Terrance Gore to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

A corresponding move will be announced prior to Friday's game. Gore served as a pinch-runner for the first month of the season, picking up two stolen bases but striking out in his lone plate appearance.

Athletics optioned INF/OF Tyler Ladendorf to Triple-A Nashville.

The A's will announce a corresponding move prior to Friday's game. Ladendorf barely played in his two weeks with the big club, going hitless in two at-bats.

Domingo Santana (shoulder) struck out as a pinch-hitter in Thursday's loss to the Reds.

Santana has been in and out of the lineup this week due to some mild soreness around his right lat. It's unclear whether he'll be ready to start Friday, but he's day-to-day.
