Shin-Soo Choo (calf) plans to run to first base on Sunday.
He'll also begin taking batting practice early this week. Choo hopes to begin a rehab assignment within the next two weeks, putting him on track for activated by mid-May if all goes well.
Jhonny Peralta (thumb) fielded grounders on Sunday.
It's the first time he's done so since having surgery to repair a torn left thumb ligament. The Cardinals have pegged May 21 as the beginning of Peralta's rehab assignment, putting him on pace to return in early June if all goes well. Aledmys Diaz had a fantastic April and should still play regularly somewhere even after Peralta returns if he keeps hitting. However, Peralta figures to be an everyday player, as well, whether it's at shortstop or third base.
Nick Hundley is not in the Rockies' lineup Sunday.
He's just getting a breather. Tony Wolters is catching in Hundley's place.
Brad Boxberger (abdomen) will throw live batting practice late this week.
Boxberger threw a 30-pitch bullpen session Saturday and will throw one more 'pen session early this week before being allowed to face hitters. He's not far off from a rehab assignment and is poised to return in mid-May.
Steven Souza is batting fifth for the third straight game on Sunday.
Souza has been hitting seventh this season for the Rays, but manager Kevin Cash said the outfielder has earned a move up in the lineup. "He’s swinging the bat well," Cash said. "Just like the way he’s going about his business right now. Like we did with mixing it up with (Logan Morrison) and (Brad) Miller, a different spot, different look for somebody to see if that triggers something." Souza sports a .274/.329/.521 batting line with five homers and one stolen base so far this season. Cash said that Souza could remain in the fifth spot for a while if he continues to produce.
Joey Gallo has been placed on Triple-A Round Rock's disabled list with a strained left groin.
It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined. Gallo is hitting .254/.400/.642 with seven homers and 16 RBI for Round Rock this season.
Joc Pederson is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.
He's on the bench with the Padres throwing a lefty (Drew Pomeranz), which has been a regular thing this season. Trayce Thompson is in center field and Enrique Hernandez is in left Sunday. They also have Yasiel Puig in the leadoff spot.
Nori Aoki is absent from the Mariners' lineup Sunday.
He's simply receiving a day off. The M's have Seth Smith in left field, Nelson Cruz in right, Robinson Cano in the designated hitter spot and Luis Sardinas at second base Sunday.
