Ryan Howard is not in the Phillies' lineup Sunday.

Howard is batting just .179/.258/.375 this month, so the Phils are getting him a breather. Michael Young is handling first base Sunday, while Freddy Galvis is at third.

Luis Cruz is nursing a sore throwing elbow.

He could be placed on the disabled list, as Mark Ellis (quad) is ready to be activated. Cruz is hitting a pathetic .096/.118/.096 this season and has seen his playing time dwindle of late.
May 19 - 11:14 AM

Mark Ellis (quad) could be activated prior to Sunday's game.

He was scheduled to remain on his rehab assignment through the weekend, but Luis Cruz is dealing with an elbow issue, so the Dodgers need some infield depth. Ellis was batting .342/.363/.452 with a pair of homers before landing on the disabled list.

Aramis Ramirez (knee) is not in the Brewers' lineup Sunday.

He's now sat out two of the last four games. Ramirez has five hits -- including two three-run homers -- in the two games he has played during the stretch, but his left knee remains a problem and manager Ron Roenicke anticipates it being one for a while longer. At this point, it doesn't appear that a trip to the DL is in the plans, but A-Ram will continue to see regular days of rest.

Jacoby Ellsbury is not in the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

Ellsbury had played every inning of every game to this point, so the club finally decided to give him a breather. The outfielder is batting just .189/.268/.230 in May. Shane Victorino is handling center field Sunday, while Daniel Nava is in right.
May 19 - 10:59 AM

Shane Victorino (back) is back in the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

Victorino sat out the last two games after his back tightened up on him, but he's ready to give it a go. He's starting in center field with Jacoby Ellsbury getting a day off.
May 19 - 10:57 AM

Stephen Drew (back) is sitting out for the second straight game Sunday.

Drew was able to play through a minor back issue on Friday, but the Red Sox don't want to push him. He should be ready to roll again soon. Pedro Ciriaco is getting another start at shortstop.
May 19 - 10:56 AM

Zack Cozart was scratched from Sunday's lineup due to illness.

He should be fine in a day or two. Cesar Izturis is taking Cozart's place at shortstop.
