Raiders signed ILB Lorenzo Alexander.

Alexander was part of Arizona's first-round cuts. He'll add veteran depth behind Curtis Lofton and Malcolm Smith on the inside. Alexander's signing is a threat to Sio Moore's roster spot.

Coach Joe Philbin views Dion Sims as a starting-caliber tight end.

"He can do a lot of different jobs; is coming along nicely," Philbin said. Jordan Cameron remains the No. 1 tight end, but could lose work to Sims on run downs. Coming off his disappointing 2014, Cameron has done nothing this preseason, catching two passes for six yards.

The NFLPA has filed a grievance on behalf of free agent TE Taylor Thompson.

Thompson was cut by the Titans back in June, but he claimed he was hurt and the Titans failed to release him with an injury settlement, as they believed he was healthy. Thompson now needs knee surgery, and the NFLPA is backing him. Thompson suspected back in June that he needed microfracture knee surgery.

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are shopping CB Will Davis.

The Dolphins would be lucky to get a conditional late-round pick back for Davis. He's coming off a torn ACL in November and is still trying to regain his footing on the field. Davis has contributed nothing since being drafted 93rd overall in 2013. Coming out of Utah State, he projected as a nickel corner long-term.

Free agent LB Lance Briggs has retired from the NFL after 11 seasons.

It's sad to see Briggs go out like this after being one of the premier 4-3 outside linebackers of his era. He spent his entire 11-year career in Chicago after being 2003 third-round pick out of Arizona. Briggs was a seven-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro. He visited the 49ers earlier in the offseason, but didn't land a contract. Briggs has decided to take a job covering the Bears with CSN Chicago.

ESPN Giants reporter Dan Graziano confirmed Victor Cruz (calf, knee) is "very much in doubt" to play in Week 1.

Cruz admitted Tuesday that his availability is in question, and at this point we'd bet against him suiting up Week 1 at Dallas. Rueben Randle would handle No. 2 duties behind Odell Beckham, with Preston Parker in the slot. Cruz has no timetable for return. He's an unlikely fantasy contributor in 2015.

Free agent ILB Larry Foote has officially decided to retire and has been hired as the Cardinals' ILBs coach.

Foote was "50-50" on playing earlier this offseason and took a temp gig as the Cardinals' ILBs coach. He'll now be the full-time coach. He turned 35 in June and was running on fumes last season across 15 starts for Arizona.

The Ravens are expected to keep third-year ILB Arthur Brown.

Brown has provided nothing to the team since being taken with the 56th overall pick in the 2013 draft, but the Ravens are having a hard time giving up on the former second-round pick. Odds are he'll be inactive more often than not.
