J.J. Nelson (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Week 3 against Dallas.

Nelson got in three straight limited practices despite an early week hamstring injury. He's on track to play, but can't be trusted with a Monday night matchup. Nelson owners need to have backup plans in place.

John Brown (quad) has been ruled out for Week 3.

This is expected as Brown didn't practice all week. The Cardinals will continue to go with Larry Fitzgerald, J.J. Nelson (questionable, hamstring), and Jaron Brown in three-receiver sets.

Lions signed coach Jim Caldwell to a multi-year extension.

Caldwell entered this season as a lame-duck coach, but the Lions had a deal in place for months. There was speculation over his job security under GM Bob Quinn, who inherited Caldwell from the Martin Mayhew regime. Caldwell has a 29-21 record and a pair of Wild Card berths in his three-plus seasons in Detroit, though the Lions have been a middling offense under him. Caldwell's extension leaves Marvin Lewis as the only coach remaining on an expiring deal.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan expects Odell Beckham to have a bigger target share against the Eagles this week.

Beckham played only 61 percent of snaps in his debut last week, but should be more involved after being removed from the injury report. He has a double-plus matchup against a secondary that's without Ronald Darby, Jaylen Watkins, Corey Graham and potentially starting FS Rodney McLeod. The Giants (0-2) need to feature Beckham in a must-win division game. Beckham has the makings for a Week 3 rebound.

Saints released DE Kendall Langford.

Langford lasted just two days after signing this week. Knee issues ended Langford's time in Indy and have his career in doubt. The Saints also released veteran DE Darryl Tapp and promoted corners Justin Hardee and Arthur Maulet from the practice squad.

49ers OLB Tank Carradine (ankle) is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

It's the standard timeline for high-ankle sprains. There was concern Carradine could be shut down for the season, but he'll likely avoid IR. Elvis Dumervil should pick up Carradine's snaps.

Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) has yet to be cleared for contact.

Williams is close to returning after a full week of limited practice, He’s running routes at full speed, but still needs to get cleared for team drills. Barring any setbacks, Williams looks in line for an early October return.

Melvin Gordon (questionable, knee) is on track to play in Sunday’s game with Kansas City.

Gordon was limited the last two days with knee soreness. Coach Anthony Lynn expects him to play this week despite the questionable tag. Gordon has struggled on a per-carry basis, but is a good bet to score against a Chiefs defense that’s allowed the third most rushing touchdowns in the league.
