Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) hit a pinch-hit single Wednesday in the Giants' win over the Indians.

Nunez was held out of the starting lineup due to hamstring tightness, though that was mostly a precautionary move as the 30-year-old third baseman is one of the Giants' more attractive trade chips. There's known to be serious interest from the Red Sox. If he's healthy, Nunez is almost certain to be moved ahead of the July 31 deadline.

Zack Cozart went 4-for-6 with a home run and two RBI in an extra-inning, 4-3 win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

He started things off with an RBI single in the first inning and busted a solo home run in the third frame off starter Zack Greinke. The veteran shortstop has always been a wizard in the field but this is the first season he has excelled at the dish. He was the National League starter at shortstop in his first All Star game last week. He is a free agent at the end of this season and is a prime candidate to be traded before the end of the month. He is batting .321/.400/.566 with 11 home runs, 38 RBI and 45 runs scored in 70 games.

Michael Lorenzen pitched two shutout innings against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and was credited with the win for his efforts.

He worked the 10th and 11th innings and did not allow a hit. He notched two strikeouts and issued one base-on-balls. The former starter has seen his stuff improve after being moved to the bullpen. He is now 5-2 with a 3.83 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. He's generated 45 strikeouts and 22 walks in 49 1/3 innings.

Billy Hamilton went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a stolen base in a win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

He reached base on an infield single in the first inning, stole second and scored on a Zack Cozart single. He singled again in the third inning and was caught trying to steal another base right before a Cozart home run. He singled yet again in the bottom of the 11th and ended up scoring the winning run on an Adam Duvall single to right. Hamilton has been hot of late, boosting his line to .253/.304/.335 with two home runs and 23 RBI. He has scored 59 runs and leads the majors with 40 stolen bases.

Tim Adleman struck out seven batters while allowing three runs in six innings against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

He surrendered seven base hits without issuing a walk in the quality start. The 29-year-old second-year player has been a serviceable innings-eater for the Reds' devastated starting rotation this year. He has a 5-7 record with a 4.96 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 17 starts and one relief appearance. He lines up for starts against the Indians and Marlins next week.

Alex Meyer allowed just one hit in seven innings versus the team that drafted him as the Angels beat the Nationals 7-0 on Wednesday.

Meyer was the Nationals’ first-round pick in 2011 before being traded to the Twins for Denard Span a year and a half later. He went on to reach the majors with Minnesota, but the Angels picked him up along with Ricky Nolasco in a four-player deal at last year’s trade deadline. This makes three of his last five outings in which Meyer has allowed no runs. Unfortunately, he’s given up five runs in the other two in that span. Consistency isn’t likely to come soon, but the Angels have to be pleased with his progress overall; he’s a very respectable 4-5 with a 3.74 ERA.
Jul 20 - 1:13 AM

Gio Gonzalez lost after allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Angels.

A rare rough outing for Gonzalez this year. In fact, it’s the first time he’s given up four runs since May 19 and just the third time in 20 starts total. He’s now lost four of his last five outings, but that’s a lot more about run support than anything he’s done wrong. The potent Nationals offense just hasn’t been as kind to him as it has to the rest of the team’s starters.
Jul 20 - 1:12 AM

C.J. Cron finished 2-for-4 with a two-run homer versus the Nationals in Wednesday’s win.

Cron was making his first start in 12 days and just his second since being recalled from the minors. Still, he has homered in two of his six at-bats since the All-Star break. The Angels could do a lot worse than to stick him at first base and just leave him alone for a spell. He was one of their best hitters each of the previous two seasons.
