Carlos Santana went 4-for-5 with a home run and nine total bases as the Indians cruised past the Twins 8-2 on Tuesday.

Santana had just three extra-base hits in his previous nine games, but the 28-year-old added two doubles to go with his 15th home run of the year. If anything, he deserved to have an even better night from a statistical standpoint -- the homer came with nobody on, and his other three hits drove in just one run combined. The four-hit evening raised his season line to .214/.353/.401.

Jesus Guzman was back in the Astros' lineup on Tuesday.

Guzman had to be scratched from Sunday's contest with back discomfort. "My back is much better today, and from yesterday to today I feel way better than last week," he said Tuesday.

Kyle Gibson has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start against the Indians due to a stiff back.

He should be fine for his next outing or maybe even later in the week, but the Twins wanted to play it safe. Anthony Swarzak will make a spot start in Gibson's place.
Jul 22 - 11:56 PM

Brian Dozier went 3-for-5 with a home run in a loss to the Indians on Tuesday.

Dozier was the only Twins player with more than one hit on the night, and he recorded two of the team's three extra-base hits -- along with the homer, Dozier doubled off Indians starter Danny Salazar in the game as well. He's now got 19 home runs to go with a still AL-best 72 runs scored. The three-hit night broke a 1-for-16 slide coming out of the All-Star break.

Christian Bergman (hand) threw another bullpen session Tuesday.

Bergman isn't eligible to return until August 20 after being placed on the 60-day DL, but he should have no trouble being ready by then. It's not a given, however, that he'll return to the big league rotation.
Jul 22 - 11:54 PM

Yan Gomes finished 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Twins.

The double was Gomes' 16th this season, giving him 39 RBI. The catcher has come out of the blocks in the second half with purpose, as he's 9-for-17 with four doubles, a home run, three RBI and five runs scored in five games. The heater has upped his season line to .276/.322/.464.
Jul 22 - 11:52 PM

Jake Odorizzi limited the Cardinals to two earned runs over 5 2/3 innings Tuesday in the Rays' 7-2 win.

Odorizzi yielded a leadoff solo home run to Matt Carpenter in the bottom of the first inning but settled in after that, out-dueling Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright. The 24-year-old right-hander boasts a 2.39 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 53 strikeouts in 49 innings (eight starts) since June 10. He's a must-own in all standard fantasy leagues. A home start against the Brewers is next.
Jul 22 - 11:49 PM

Nick Swisher went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in a win over the Twins on Tuesday.

Swisher swatted two singles and a ground-rule double on the evening, coming around to score two of the Indians' eight runs. That it was his first three-hit affair of the 2014 season speaks to the down year Swisher has had to this point. The Brohio native did come out of the gate fast in the second half, and perhaps the break was just what Swisher needed to get going in the right direction at the dish.
