ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Orioles and Giants are interested in Emilio Bonifacio.

Both clubs are looking for help against left-handed pitching, and Bonifacio is sporting an OPS over 1.000 from the right side of the plate this season. He's being paid $3.5 million this year and will be a free agent this winter and shouldn't cost a whole lot.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Marlins and Red Sox are discussing a possible John Lackey trade.

The Marlins obviously like the fact that Lackey has a team option of $500,000 for next season. It also doesn't hurt that he's posted a 3.55 ERA over 50 starts since the beginning of last season. It's not clear at this point what kind of package the Marlins might be willing to give up.

MLB.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Dodgers are no longer pursuing Jon Lester, David Price and Cole Hamels.

The Dodgers are refusing to give up Joc Pederson, Corey Seager or Julio Urias in any deal, which makes acquiring one of the aforementioned aces an impossibility. Gammons said they're now focused on adding a back-end starter and bullpen help. With the Cardinals also out of the picture, it appears the Lester market might be down to the Pirates and A's.

MLB.com's Peter Gammons reports that the Cardinals are set to acquire Justin Masterson from the Indians.

The New York Post's Joel Sherman says the Cardinals will send James Ramsey to the Indians in the deal. Masterson has struggled in his walk season, posting a posting a 5.51 ERA over 19 starts. He's battled a knee injury, though, and the Cards are obviously hoping he's healthy and can improve in a move to the National League. Masterson should make his Cardinals' debut on Saturday against the Brewers. St. Louis presumably is out of picture for Jon Lester and David Price now.

Rangers prospect RHP Jake Thompson allowed two runs on two hits and three walks and struck out five batters in four innings on Tuesday in his debut for Double-A Frisco.

Thompson was acquired from the Tigers last week along with reliever Corey Knebel in the Joakim Soria trade. During his time with Detroit this season, the 20-year-old right-hander posted a 3.06 ERA and 86-29 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 94 innings between High-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie. Thompson now ranks as one the Rangers’ top pitching prospects and could be ready to debut in the major leagues at some point next season.
Jul 30 - 2:05 PM

Yankees prospect RHP Luis Severino allow one (unearned) run on two hits while walking two batters and striking out seven on Tuesday for Double-A Trenton.

Severino, 20, has dominated this season across three advanced levels, including a 1.84 ERA and 20-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 14 2/3 innings over three starts at Trenton. Between all three stops, the promising right-hander owns a 2.36 ERA, .217 BAA and 118-25 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 103 innings. After logging 44 innings in 2013, Severino is likely to have his workload limited over the final months of the season. However, that issue could be solved quickly should the Yankees move him to the bullpen so as to use him in the major leagues down the stretch.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Phillies are willing to absorb part of Cliff Lee's contract in a trade if they get the right prospects in return.

It's no surprise, of course, given that Lee is guaranteed more than anyone else in baseball through the end of next season (roughly $48 million) and hasn't pitched well in two starts since returning from an elbow injury. The veteran left-hander could be dealt next month, as he is expected to clear waivers.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Clayton Richard to a minor league contract.

He'll make a start for the Arizona League Diamondbacks this weekend. Richard underwent AC joint surgery last summer and thoracic outlet surgery over the offseason but is finally ready for game action again after a long rehab. He could possibly come up with the D'Backs in September if he looks good in the minors.
