Cameron Rupp was pulled from Saturday's game against the Pirates after taking a pitch off his helmet.

The 91 mph fastball from Pirates rookie Tyler Glasnow caught Rupp right in the ear hole. He'll probably be put through MLB's concussion protocol. Look for an update Saturday night or Sunday morning. Rupp was 0-for-1 in the game, after going 2-for-4 with a homer, a walk, and three RBI on Friday night.

Juan Uribe (head) is out of the Indians' lineup Saturday.

Uribe took a pitch off his helmet on Friday night but thankfully avoided any type of serious injury. Indians manager Terry Francona said Uribe woke up with a minor headache but "dodged a big bullet."

Craig Kimbrel (knee) could begin a minor league rehab assignment late next week.

Kimbrel is set to throw a bullpen session Sunday or Monday and he'll do the same on Wednesday. If that all goes well, the next step may be a minor league game. "That could be done at (Triple-A) Pawtucket," Red Sox manager John Farrell said Saturday. "We could be looking at an appearance at Pawtucket. We're not scripting it out past Wednesday, because we could go one of two ways here." Brad Ziegler is filling in at closer for the Red Sox with Koji Uehara (pectoral) possibly done for the year.

Rockies recalled RHP Scott Oberg from Triple-A Albuquerque.

He'll take over for Chad Qualls, who was placed on the disabled list in a corresponding move due to an illness. Oberg has a 4.05 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 13 1/3 innings this season at the MLB level.

Rockies placed RHP Chad Qualls on the 15-day disabled list with an illness.

There aren't any details available yet, but it's obviously more than just a cold or flu. Qualls, 37, holds a 5.61 ERA in 36 appearances this season with Colorado.
Jul 23 - 4:58 PM

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Saturday that he is "hopeful" Koji Uehara (pectoral) can return this season.

Which of course means it's possible he will not return this season. Uehara was placed on the disabled list Wednesday with a strained pectoral, a unique injury for a pitcher. He got platelet-rich plasma treatment on Friday to try to expedite the healing. "There is no number of days that says Koji's going to put a ball back in his hand," Farrell told reporters Saturday. "He’s just getting past the soreness." Brad Ziegler is now serving as the primary closer in Boston with Craig Kimbrel (knee) also on the shelf.

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) remains out of the Dodgers' lineup Saturday against the Cardinals.

Puig was used as a pinch-hitter in Friday's extra-innings marathon, but he isn't ready to return to the outfield and probably won't start Sunday either. He tweaked his right hamstring Thursday afternoon in D.C.

Matt Wieters (foot) is hoping to return to the Orioles' starting lineup on Monday.

Wieters has been out all week with a bruised foot. Caleb Joseph is doing the filling in at catcher.
