Cameron Maybin (wrists, shoulder) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Friday.

Maybin is working his way back from a hairline fracture in his right wrist and has had two setbacks when he was hit by a pitch on his left wrist and also when he hurt his shoulder on a dive. He's been alternating between playing center field and serving as a designated hitter, and Tigers manager Brad Ausmus indicated Maybin still isn't totally comfortable when throwing. "The bigger concern is being able to throw," Ausmus said. "He’s gotta play the field." Maybin will DH on Friday.

Mallex Smith is not in the Braves' lineup Friday.

He's getting a day off with the Cubs throwing lefty Jon Lester. Drew Stubbs is in center field and batting eighth.

Jason Motte (shoulder) threw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

Motte is working his way back from a strained right shoulder and appears to be making progress. It seems like he should be ready to begin a rehab assignment before long.

Miguel Castro (shoulder) threw 25 pitches on flat ground Wednesday.

Castro has missed the last week with shoulder inflammation, but he's eligible to return on Monday and could be back by then or shortly after. "I was a little afraid about the injury at first," Castro said, "but now that I have been throwing, and it's been feeling better, I feel good."

Kris Bryant (ankle) is not in the Cubs' lineup on Friday.

Bryant turned his right ankle on Thursday and underwent a precautionary MRI, but the results confirmed that the sprain is minor. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune says the third baseman "may miss a couple days," but adds that the Cubs are "not worried" about the injury. Javier Baez is filling in at the hot corner on Friday.

Orioles signed LHP Wandy Rodriguez to a minor league contract.

Rodriguez pitched well this spring for the Astros -- 3.95 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 11 strikeouts over 13 2/3 innings -- but didn't make the Opening Day roster and was released. Dan Connolly of BaltimoreBaseball.com says that Rodriguez is headed to extended spring training before presumably being assigned to Triple-A Norfolk. The veteran left-hander holds a 5.34 ERA in the majors since the beginning of 2014.

The Brewers expect Scooter Gennett (oblique) to miss three weeks of action.

Gennett was placed on the disabled list Thursday with a strained right oblique. The injury didn't require an MRI, though, as the club believes the strain is a slight one. "It's not a bad (injury)," manager Craig Counsell said. "They didn't do an MRI. It wasn't deemed serious enough for that. It's still a DL (situation), though. These things are a little tricky so we'll go with it. He's not playing for at least two weeks, then we'll see." Yadiel Rivera has made two straight starts at second base with Gennett out, but Colin Walsh and Hernan Perez should see some time there, as well.

Tyler Saladino has been dealing with some back tightness of late.

It helps explain why he hasn't started a game since Sunday, although he did make an appearance late in Thursday's contest. Saladino has played a decent amount this season as the White Sox try to keep Jimmy Rollins fresh. The back ailment doesn't seem to be a big deal, although the Sox didn't call up Carlos Sanchez for some more infield protection.
