Nick Castellanos (hand) is in Wednesday's lineup against the Orioles.

Castellanos left Tuesday's Grapefruit League game after suffering a left hand contusion on a hit-by-pitch, but X-rays came back negative. It sounds like the Tigers aren't too worried about it. Castellanos, who turns 23 on Wednesday, hit .259 with 11 home runs and a .700 OPS across 148 games as a rookie last year and should be poised to take another step forward in 2015.
Mar 4 - 8:58 AM

Brian Matusz received a cortisone shot in his right (non-throwing) shoulder Monday for an AC joint strain.

Matusz is feeling better now, but he hurt his shoulder six weeks ago while lifting weights. It's his non-throwing shoulder, so it's not a major concern. The 28-year-old southpaw had a 3.48 ERA and 53/17 K/BB ratio across 51 2/3 innings last season.

Paul Janish (elbow) could begin hitting this weekend.

Janish underwent surgery two weeks ago to remove bone chips from his right elbow, but he took grounders for 20-25 minutes on Tuesday and will throw on Friday or Saturday. He hopes to play in games starting March 20-21, which doesn't give him much time to show the Orioles that he should make the team. Look for him to begin the year in the minors.
Mar 4 - 8:42 AM

Rusney Castillo got his left side checked out by team doctors on Wednesday morning and said it's "nothing serious."

Castillo felt some pain in his left side in his final at-bat Tuesday, but fortunately it's not something like an oblique strain. He expects to be available Thursday, so he shouldn't be losing any playing time as he competes with Mookie Betts for the starting center field job.
Mar 4 - 8:37 AM

Lucas Duda (oblique) is expected to swing a bat Wednesday.

Duda hasn't swung a bat in three weeks due to a minor oblique strain. He received a cortisone shot to deal with the injury and he should have plenty of time to get ready for the season if there are no setbacks.
Mar 4 - 8:30 AM

Alex Cobb will start Opening Day against the Orioles on April 6.

It will be the first Opening Day start of his career. It was a logical choice, as Cobb is now the staff ace with David Price out of the picture. The 27-year-old posted a 2.87 ERA and 149/47 K/BB ratio across 166 1/3 innings last season.
Mar 4 - 8:28 AM

Joel Hanrahan will undergo a second Tommy John surgery.

Terrible news. Hanrahan previously had Tommy John surgery in May of 2013, but hasn't been able to make it back to the majors. He visited a specialist this week after soreness in his elbow lingered and now he's headed for another surgery. The veteran reliever can now be ruled out through the early part of the 2016 season. He'll turn 34 this October.
Mar 4 - 8:22 AM

Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that Chad Billingsley (elbow) is not expected to be game-ready for the Phillies until late April.

Billingsley is behind the other pitchers in camp after being limited to just two starts over the last two seasons following Tommy John and flexor tendon surgeries. He'll be a part of the rotation once healthy, but the Phillies will need one of David Buchanan or Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez to hold down a spot for a few weeks.
