Jason Motte pitched a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save against the Mets on Tuesday.
Motte struck out one in the perfect frame. Manager Joe Maddon has been all over the map with his bullpen usage, and Tuesday he used Hector Rondon and Pedro Strop to set up for Motte in the ninth. The save was his third of the season and his first since June 22. Motte owns a 3.03 ERA and 1.11 WHIP but can't be trusted more than any of the other options at this point.
Michael Cuddyer will undergo an MRI on his left knee Wednesday.
Cuddyer left Tuesday's game against the Cubs after injuring the knee. It's unclear how worried the Mets are about the outfielder at this point, but the fact that he's having the MRI certainly creats some cause for concern.
Kris Bryant went 1-for-2 with two walks and a run in Tuesday's win over the Mets.
The run was the only one either team would score in the game. Even after missing the season's first two weeks, Bryant's 40 walks are fifth-most in the National League. The 23-year-old is hitting .275/.381/.466 in his rookie year.
Jon Niese was on the wrong end of a low-scoring affair Tuesday, taking the loss despite allowing one run over seven innings against the Cubs.
Niese allowed a lone run on four hits while also walking four on the evening. The lefty struck out five in the losing effort. It has become a bit of a pattern for Niese, who fell to 3-8 despite a decent 3.90 ERA. Niese still hasn't won since May 9, but he'll look to correct that Sunday at the Dodgers.
Matt Szczur had an RBI double in Tuesday's win over the Mets.
The run-scoring double in the sixth inning was the only run either side could muster on the evening. Szczur finished 2-for-4 in the contest. He's hitting .214/.250/.321 in a part-time role with the Cubs.
Shane Robinson was a late scratch from Tuesday's lineup due to the flu.
He should be fine in a day or two. Danny Santana took Robinson's spot in the lineup and played center field, while Eddie Rosario moved over to left.
Michael Cuddyer left Tuesday's game versus the Cubs with a sore left knee.
Cuddyer didn't suffer an obvious injury, so it's unclear how he was hurt. The Mets should have more on the veteran outfielder's status later Tuesday.
Rockies recalled LHP Yohan Flande from Triple-A Albuquerque.
Flande has put up a 7.36 ERA across 7 1/3 relief frames with the big club this season. He'll be utilized in long relief.
