Steven Souza has experienced marginal improvement with his strained right pectoral.

While the feeling is that this strain is less serious than the one that cost him six weeks earlier this season, it sounds like he could still head back to the disabled list. The Diamondbacks can backdate his DL stint the maximum three days if they make a move Tuesday, so we'll likely find out then what they'll do.

Roman Quinn will be sidelined 6-8 weeks after undergoing surgery Monday to repair a torn ligament in his right middle finger.

Quinn has spent all of this season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley, batting .289/.340/.444 with two homers and 12 steals. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2016 and obviously won't be an option for the Phillies for a while.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Monday that a decision on whether to activate Greg Bird (ankle) will come "maybe a week from now."

Boone said Sunday that Bird could return at some point this week, but it sounds like it will be a little longer than that. Bird -- who has been out all season following March ankle surgery -- entered Monday batting .174/.387/.304 with one homer over his first eight rehab games before going deep in his first at-bat with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Darren O'Day (elbow) is likely to need a rehab assignment before being activated.

The Orioles initially hoped to have O'Day back this past weekend, but they've decided to proceed more cautiously with his rehab. He will throw another bullpen session Tuesday and might be ready for a rehab appearance after that.
May 21 - 6:36 PM

The Orioles plan for Zach Britton (Achilles) to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on May 30.

He'll obviously need a handful of rehab appearances before being activated. Coming back from a ruptured Achilles tendon, Britton has been throwing off a mound for nearly a month and will throw a simulated game Tuesday. He would seem to be tracking toward a return in mid-June if all goes well.

Carson Kelly (hamstring) could be activated from the disabled list on Saturday when first eligible.

Kelly landed on the DL last week with a hamstring strain, but it was a minor one. He'll replace Steve Baron on the roster when he's ready.

DJ LeMahieu (thumb, wrist) played catch Monday.

He did not catch the ball in his glove, though, in order to protect his sprained thumb and small wrist fracture. In other words, LeMahieu is just keeping his arm in shape and is at the very beginning of his rehab.

Adam Wainwright underwent a non-intrusive procedure Monday where doctors used a microscopic camera to take pictures of the inside of his right elbow.

It's the latest in a battery of tests the Cardinals are putting Wainwright through in hopes of figuring out the exact cause of his elbow discomfort. The veteran right-hander was moved to the 60-day disabled list last week and thus isn't eligible to return until mid-July.
