ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that the Cubs are "aggressively trying to include Starlin Castro in any deal."

It's notable that Addison Russell started at shortstop on Wednesday. Cubs manager Joe Maddon said earlier this week that Castro would not be traded, but that's not a promise he can keep. The 25-year-old is batting just .237/.371/.305 in 406 plate appearances this season and his defense at shortstop has deteriorated. There's been talk of interest from the Padres.

Michael Pineda is headed to the disabled list with a Grade 1 strain in his right forearm.

It's the same injury that Andrew Miller suffered earlier this summer and he wound up missing a month. Bryan Mitchell has been called up to start in Pineda's place on Thursday night against the Rangers. It's a tough blow for the Yankees, who are probably going to get much more aggressive on the trade market.

Red Sox sent C Sandy Leon outright to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Leon was designated for assignment by the Red Sox exactly 10 days ago and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 26-year-old will continue acting as organizational depth at catcher for Boston.

Tigers transferred LHP Kyle Lobstein from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

It's a paperwork move to clear a 40-man roster spot for Daniel Norris, who was acquired from the Blue Jays in Thursday's David Price trade. Lobstein has been out since May 24. There's no timetable for his return.
Jul 30 - 2:01 PM

Joel Sherman of the New York Post was told that Michael Pineda is dealing with a right forearm muscle strain, not an elbow issue.

Sherman says it's not considered serious, but Pineda has been scratched from his scheduled start Thursday night against the Rangers and it's not clear when he might be ready to pitch next. Bryan Mitchell will take the mound for the Yankees, who may now have a little more urgency to add a starter ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
Jul 30 - 1:55 PM

Blue Jays acquired LHP David Price from the Tigers for LHPs Daniel Norris, Jairo Labourt, and Matt Boyd.

Price had been drawing heavy interest from the Dodgers, Yankees, Cubs, and Giants, but the Blue Jays beat all the other offers. It's a risky play to give up so much young, cost-controlled talent for what could be a 2-3 month rental -- Price is eligible for free agency after the World Series -- but the Jays feel they can make a postseason push and they've now combined two of the top trade targets on this year's market. Troy Tulowitzki was acquired from the Rockies earlier this week.

Tigers acquired LHPs Daniel Norris, Jairo Labourt, and Matt Boyd from the Blue Jays for LHP David Price.

Norris hasn't shown a whole lot yet at the major league level, but the 22-year-old left-hander entered the 2015 season as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball and the Tigers get six years of him for 2-3 months of Price. Labourt and Boyd also carry considerable upside. It's a nice haul for the retooling Detroit front office.
Jul 30 - 1:43 PM

Tigers acquired LHPs Jairo Labourt, Matt Boyd, and Daniel Norris from the Blue Jays for LHP David Price.

Labourt has posted some underwhelming numbers this season in High-A ball, but he's a big left-hander with a very good arsenal and he doesn't turn 22 years old until next March. The kid is more than just a throw-in.
