Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said Friday that Andre Ethier will remain the team's starting left fielder after Carl Crawford returns from the disabled list.

The news doesn't come as a huge surprise, as Ethier is slashing .270/.350/.479 with 10 homers and 28 RBI and has been a consistent performer throughout the season. Crawford appears destined for a reserve role upon his eventual return.

Travis d'Arnaud (elbow) is not expected to rejoin the Mets when he's first eligible.

While the hyperextended elbow that he's dealing with isn't going to require surgery, it will keep the young backstop sidelined for longer than 15 days. There remains no clear timetable for his potential return to the Mets lineup.
Jul 3 - 7:33 PM

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Mets are willing to overpay to acquire Ben Zobrist from the Athletics.

With the A's winning 12 of their last 18 games, there is hope within the organization that they could still make a run for the postseason, so at least for now Zobrist has been pulled off the trade block. That being said, you never want to give away leverage in a negotiating situation and now that the word is out A's general manager Billy Beane is likely to demand a king's ransom from the Mets in exchange for Zobrist.
Jul 3 - 7:22 PM

Carl Crawford (oblique) will resume his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.

Crawford has been out the past couple of days due to flu-like symptoms. He worked out with the Dodgers on Friday and admitted that he should be ready to return to the club immediately after the All-Star break, though it's likely to be in a reserve role.
Jul 3 - 7:13 PM

Michael Cuddyer (knee) remained out of the Mets' starting lineup for Friday's game against the Dodgers.

The veteran outfielder is still expected to avoid the disabled list. He received a cortisone injection on Wednesday and is expected to return to action at some point over the weekend.
Jul 3 - 7:11 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin said Friday that he'd like to have Sonny Gray (illness) return to the rotation on Tuesday.

That way, the right-hander would be able to make two starts before the All-Star break. He had to have his last start skipped and required hospitalization due to a nasty bout of salmonella, but he seems to be doing much better now. Chris Bassitt will start in his place again on Sunday, so look for Gray to take Tuesday's series opener against the Yankees in New York.
Jul 3 - 7:06 PM

Athletics manager Bob Melvin admitted Friday that Coco Crisp (neck) has also been dealing with several kidney stones.

It's not much of a surprise that the oft-injured outfielder finds himself on the disabled list once again, and even while trying to recover from a neck issue, he's having other health problems. He isn't expected to rejoin the A's until after the All-Star break, and his chances of remaining healthy after his return are slim.
Jul 3 - 6:56 PM

Carlos Rodon will start for the White Sox on Sunday against the Orioles.

The White Sox, as anticipated, will push Chris Sale back a day and have him go against the Blue Jays on Monday. The 22-year-old hurler owns a 4.07 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 55/31 K/BB ratio over 55 1/3 innings with the White Sox n his rookie season.
