Kenta Maeda allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings on Friday but had to settle for a no-decision in the Dodgers' 9-7 victory over the Diamondbacks.

He struck out five batters without issuing any free passes. For the season he has a 3.23 ERA and has fanned exactly one batter per inning. With Clayton Kershaw hurting, the Dodgers are relying heavily on Maeda to lead them into the playoffs.

Zack Godley proved mortal on Friday, allowing three runs in six innings of work in Friday's no-decision effort.

He held the Dodgers to four base hits and two walks. He struck out four in the quality start. He now has an unattractive 5.63 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. Next on tap is a tough matchup versus the Nationals.
Jul 30 - 3:11 AM

Kenley Jansen got the last four outs of the game without allowing any base-runners to earn his 31st save of the season.

He is as lights-out solid as closers can get. He has a 1.37 ERA with 59 strikeouts and only seven walks in 46 innings. His 31 saves rank third in the majors. Despite those great numbers he has blown five saves this year.
Jul 30 - 3:04 AM

Corey Seager doubled twice and finished 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI on Friday.

His RBI double in the eighth inning provided the Dodgers an insurance run. The 22-year-old phenom is already one of the best hitters in baseball. He is batting .307/.361/.523 with 17 homers and 66 runs scored. His 47 RBI leave room for improvement but the blame for that falls on his teammates. The only thing he doesn't do well is steal bases, having swiped only one all year.
Jul 30 - 2:57 AM

Paul Goldschmidt went 3-for-4 while driving in three runs and scoring another on Friday.

In his second at-bat of the seventh inning he doubled with the bases loaded as the Diamondbacks put up seven runs in the frame. Goldschmidt is unlikely to match his MVP-caliber stats from a year ago, but he is having another highly productive season in under-the-radar fashion. He is slashing .303/.418/.508 with 17 home runs, 62 runs, 68 RBI and 14 stolen bases.
Jul 30 - 2:49 AM

Brandon Finnegan shut out the Padres for six innings to lead the Reds to a 6-0 victory on Friday night.

He limited the opposition to four base hits while striking out five. His record moves to 6-8 with a 4.68 ERA. Finnegan has struggled in two categories this year -- home runs and walks. Neither of those burned him tonight, although he did walk three. He has given up 22 home runs and a hefty 59 walks in 117 1/3 innings this year.
Jul 30 - 2:35 AM

Edwin Jackson was hammered for six earned runs in five innings in a loss to the Reds on Friday.

He gave up four runs in the first inning and two more in the fifth. He managed to keep the ball in the ballpark but was peppered for 10 base hits and two walks. His ERA climbs to 5.46 in 28 innings split between the Marlins and Padres. He has more walks (16) than strikeouts (15) on the year.
Jul 30 - 2:33 AM

Eugenio Suarez went 2-for-4 while driving in four runs on Friday.

He stroked a two-run double in the first inning and a two-run single in the fifth inning. Suarez has long since cooled off after his torrid start to the season, but he can still fill the box score on occasion. He is hitting .236 with 17 home runs and 48 RBI. He has chipped in seven steals for good measure.
