Jhoulys Chacin will start Opening Day for the Padres.

Well, that is something. The Padres could have one of the worst rotations we've seen in a long time, so Chacin is the best option on the board. He'll be followed by Clayton Richard and Jered Weaver. The Padres have yet to make a final decision beyond that, but we will likely see plenty of names shuffled in and out all year.

Orioles reassigned INF Paul Janish to minor league camp.

Janish appeared in 14 games with the Orioles last season, but he was in camp this spring as a non-roster invitee. The 34-year-old was unable to win a spot on the Opening Day roster.

X-rays on Jake Petricka's right hand came back negative.

Petricka took a comeback off his hand on Monday, but fortunately he avoided serious injury. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Carlos Rodon (biceps) was diagnosed with bursitis after an MRI showed no structural damage.

The initial MRI on Rodon's left biceps showed no structural damage, so this test confirms the original diagnosis. The plan calls for him to go on a throwing program for the next two weeks before being re-evaluated. He'll go on the disabled list, but it's possible he could be ready at some point in the early part of the year.

Delino DeShields has made the Rangers' Opening Day roster.

DeShields has certainly earned it, as hes hitting .302 with a .448 on-base percentage to go along with 12 stolen bases. His exact role isn't clear, but Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram notes that he has "looked like an everyday player." DeShields has been a useful fantasy option before and there's opportunity in left field right now, so this situation is worth watching.

Indians signed INF/OF Jose Ramirez to a five-year, $26 million extension.

The agreement was reported late last week and it's now official. The extension includes two club options at $11 million (2022) and $13 million (2023), so the deal could max out at $50 million. Ramirez is coming off a breakout 2016 where he batted .312/.363/.462 with 11 homers, 76 RBI and 22 stolen bases over 152 games.

Royals reassigned C Brayan Pena to minor league camp.

Drew Butera will begin the year as Salvador Perez's backup. Pena figures to provide catching depth at the Triple-A level.

Cubs released INF Munenori Kawasaki.

Kawasaki, 35, appeared in 14 games with the Cubs last season and batted .255/.352/.312 over 102 games in Triple-A. He's a clubhouse/fan favorite and the Cubs would surely like to work out a new deal, but he could find a more appealing opportunity elsewhere.
