Blue Jays claimed RHP Ben Rowen off waivers from the Cubs.

Rowen was designated for assignment by the Cubs on July 31 to open up a roster spot for new starting pitcher Dan Haren. Rowen, a 26-year-old right-handed reliever with promising minor league numbers, has been assigned to the Blue Jays' Triple-A team in Buffalo.

Rockies RHP prospect Jesus Tinoco spun six shutout innings Sunday in his debut for Low-A Asheville.

The win was Tinoco's third in 16 starts. Tinoco didn't allow a runner to reach second base until the sixth inning. He matched his second-highest strikeout total of the year with seven punch-outs.The 20-year-old was acquired from Toronto last week in the Troy Tulowitzki trade. His best pitch is a 60-grade fastball that clocks in the mid-90s.

Rays purchased the contract of 1B/3B Richie Shaffer from Triple-A Durham.

Shaffer has hit .265/.359/595 with 16 home runs in 55 games this season at the Triple-A level. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft and could slide his way into semi-regular playing time if things go well out of the gate. The 24-year-old should be on fantasy watch lists.

Rays optioned LHP Matt Moore to Triple-A Durham.

Moore went 1-3 with an 8.78 ERA in six starts after returning July 2 from Tommy John surgery. The 26-year-old southpaw clearly needs to build more arm strength and the Rays want him to do it as a starter in the minors rather than the bullpen as a mop-up man. Tampa Bay has some upcoming off days and will roll with a four-man rotation for the time being.

Brandon Beachy will accept an assignment to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Beachy was designated for assignment by the Dodgers on July 30. He had the option of electing free agency, but the 28-year-old right-hander has decided to remain with the organization. Beachy is still building arm strength following his second Tommy John surgery.

Pirates optioned OF Jaff Decker to Triple-A Indianapolis.

The move clears a roster spot for Michael Morse, who was acquired on July 31 for Jose Tabata. Decker, 25, has logged just 13 at-bats this season at the major league level.

Mariners OF prospect Tyler O'Neill slugged his third home run in as many games Sunday in a win for High-A Bakersfield.

O'Neill's only hit of the afternoon broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth inning. The 20-year-old has plated 15 runs over his last nine games, hitting .361 during that stretch. He's taken over the California League-lead in home runs with 24 and is sixth in slugging at .554. The former third-round pick has struck out in over a third of his at-bats this season (100 Ks in 298 trips to the plate) but few can rival the power he generates.

Nationals SS prospect Wilmer Difo contributed a career-high five hits in Sunday's win for Double-A Harrisburg.

He also stole a career-high four bases. Difo entered Sunday's game just two for his last 16. Few could have predicted Difo's meteoric rise through the Washington farm system. He began the year at High-A Potomac and has already seen time with the Nationals this season. The 23-year-old has hit .283 with a .332 on base percentage in 300 minor league at-bats this year.
