Josh Beckett was bombed for four runs on nine hits over 4 1/3 innings in a no-decision Tuesday versus the Braves.

It was a nightmare from the outset, as Beckett also walked four. Fortunately, his offense and bullpen bailed him out in the 8-4 victory. Beckett was thrilled to see the Braves after not facing them for more than five years -- he entered the night 6-0 with a 0.38 ERA in his last seven outings against the club. Beckett was 0-4 with a 3.30 ERA in his last five home starts. The veteran gets the Cubs in Los Angeles next time around.

Aaron Harang was trampled for four runs on nine hits over six innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers in Tuesday's start.

Harang whiffed three and issued one free pass. The veteran right-hander entered this game 4-0 with a 2.20 ERA in his last six outings, but couldn't sustain the success, which is always the fear with a slop thrower. Harang, 9-6 with a 3.43 ERA, has a nice matchup next time out, as he's scheduled to visit Petco Park and the Padres on Sunday.

Joaquin Benoit pitched a scoreless ninth in a 3-1 game for his third save Tuesday against the Cardinals.

Benoit was perfect outside of plunking Daniel Descalso. That exhale you heard was San Diego's front office, which is reportedly shopping Benoit. With a 4.91 ERA in July and six walks over his last four appearances, shopping was making that task a little more difficult for them. Benoit is one of the best relievers on the market. He boasts a 1.88 ERA and 0.84 WHIP.

Yangervis Solarte homered, walked and scored two runs on Tuesday in a 3-1 win against the Cardinals.

Solarte delighted the faithful in his home debut, homering for the second time in three games. The infielder is off to a sizzling start on the West Coast, recording an RBI in six of his first seven games as a Padre. Solarte isn't likely to make anybody forget Chase Headley, but he is slashing .286/.353/.571 over his short tenure with the Padres.

Tyson Ross struck out seven while allowing one run over six innings in a victory over the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Ross put himself in several bad spots with unforced errors, but managed to miss bats when he needed to, negating five walks and four hits. The right-hander came into this game with a 1.03 ERA in July, the NL's best mark, and he just completed his first career three-start win streak. Ross is riding the majors' second best groundball percentage (behind Dallas Keuchel) and better than a strikeout per inning into a breakout season. The first-time All-Star brings a 10-10 record and 2.60 ERA into a start versus the Braves this weekend.
Jul 30 - 1:39 AM

Lance Lynn yielded two runs -- one earned -- over six innings in a 3-1 loss to the Padres on Tuesday.

Lynn struck out six, walked three and surrendered four hits. The right-hander came into the game with a 1.75 ERA in July. Outside of a seven-run implosion against the Dodgers on June 28, Lynn hasn't given up more than two runs in a start since June 6. Now 11-8 with a 2.98 ERA, Lynn looks to keep up the good vibes when he welcomes the Brewers to St. Louis on Sunday.

Daniel Descalso left Tuesday's game versus the Padres after being hit on the right knee by a pitch.

Descalso was able to limp down to first base but was then replaced by pinch-runner Peter Bourjos. He'll likely be re-evaluated Wednesday before the Cardinals know how much time he might miss.

Josh Harrison homered in his third consecutive game, helping the Pirates to a 3-1 win over the Giants on Tuesday.

He finished 1-for-3 with a walk. Harrison is smoking hot, going 7-for-12 with three homers and four RBI in his last three games. Keep riding the wave while Harrison is surfing, but you never know when he'll be washed ashore. For instance, Harrison was 5-for-27 in his previous eight games prior to his last three.
