Raisel Iglesias revealed Thursday that he injured his right elbow and hips when he fell in the shower three weeks ago.

That explains why Iglesias hasn't appeared in a Cactus League game since March 14, and why he underwent an MRI on the elbow of his throwing arm earlier this week. The results of that MRI came back negative, but Iglesias is questionable-to-doubtful for the beginning of the 2017 regular season. Michael Lorenzen, Tony Cingrani, and Drew Storen could all be in line for save opportunities out of the gate in Cincinnati. Reds manager Bryan Price spoke this winter about wanting to use a matchups-based approach at closer in 2017, and this Iglesias injury -- even if it's minor -- gives Price all the more reason to follow through with that plan.

Ben Zobrist (neck) is out of the Cubs' Cactus League lineup again on Thursday.

Zobrist was scratched from the lineup Wednesday after complaining of some minor neck stiffness. It doesn't sound like something that will affect the veteran's readiness for the opening of the 2017 regular season.

Rays reassigned 1B Casey Gillaspie, OF/1B Jake Bauers, OF Johnny Field, INF Jake Hager, INF/OF Patrick Leonard, OF Dayron Varona, RHP Andrew Kittredge, and RHP Neil Wagner to minor league camp.

A big round of cuts from Rays camp. Gillaspie is on track to make his MLB debut at some point in 2017 after batting .284/.388/.479 with 18 home runs and 64 RBI in 132 games last season between Double-A Montgomery and Triple-A Durham. The 24-year-old first base prospect was selected 20th overall by the Rays in the 2014 MLB June Amateur Draft.

Rays released RHP Jeff Walters.

Walters allowed five runs -- four earned -- in 4 2/3 innings this spring in the Grapefruit League. The 29-year-old right-hander has never appeared in a major league game.
Mar 23 - 11:05 AM

Rays released RHP David Carpenter.

Carpenter had a 3.12 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and six strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings this spring in the Grapefruit League. He should latch on with another team, on another non-guaranteed minor league deal.

Marlins optioned RHP Severino Gonzalez to Triple-A New Orleans.

Gonzalez posted a 3.55 ERA in two starts and five relief appearances this spring in Grapefruit League play. It's not clear yet whether he's going to work out of the bullpen or rotation for the New Orleans Baby Cakes.

Marlins optioned OF Destin Hood to Triple-A New Orleans.

Hood spent most of the 2016 season at Triple-A, batting .267/.316/.435 with 15 home runs, 80 RBI, and 11 stolen bases in 126 games. The 26-year-old will continue operating as organizational outfield depth for the Fish.

Michael Taylor is back in Nationals camp Thursday.

Taylor was excused from the club for a week following the death of his father. The funeral is actually on Monday, but Taylor is fighting for a spot on the Nationals' bench and wanted to get back and play.
