ESPN Chiefs reporter Adam Teicher reports Jamaal Charles "hasn’t regained the role -- full-time featured back -- he had before last season’s torn ACL."
The Vikings announced Teddy Bridgewater suffered a completely torn ACL and dislocated knee at Tuesday's practice.
This was the fear. Bridgewater also suffered "other structural damage," and he's obviously done for the season. The Vikings expect Bridgewater to make a full recovery, but when exactly he'll be healed is anybody's guess. It's going to be a long, lonely rehab for the 24-year-old (in November). Minnesota's playoff chances take a big hit, even if Bridgewater isn't scaring many defenses with his arm. He showed tangible signs of progress the past year. Veteran backup Shaun Hill is a big downgrade.
Profootballtalk reports Peyton Manning has zero plans to play in 2016.
Manning has been casually linked to the Vikings following Teddy Bridgewater's Tuesday injury, but it's not going to happen for a million different reasons. There's a 100 percent chance Manning has played his final NFL snap.
Free agent QB Austin Davis is visiting the Cowboys on Wednesday.
The Cowboys need a new No. 2 behind Dak Prescott, but Davis is unlikely to be the answer. The Cowboys probably want/need an extra arm for Thursday's preseason finale.
NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports Teddy Bridgewater's knee injury was "gruesome," and that his teammates were "noticeably affected."
It sounds like we're dealing with a Kevin Ware/Paul George-type situation. An ambulance and paramedics were summoned when Bridgewater went down, with the paramedics being something longtime observers had never seen before at a Vikings training camp practice. Bridgewater isn't going to play this season. The question is fast becoming if he'll be ready for 2017.
Saints placed DE Hau'oli Kikaha (knee) on the reserve/PUP list.
The oft-injured 2015 second-rounder is expected to miss the entire season. Kikaha has torn his ACL three different times, clouding his future.
Saints released DT C.J. Wilson.
TE RaShaun Allen, CB Brandon Dixon, OG Kaleb Eulls and LB Tony Steward have been waived. Smith signed as depth in June. A sixth-year pro, Wilson made 12 appearances between the Raiders and Lions last season. He'll troll for end-of-roster work.
Packers released P Tim Masthay.
Masthay has been the Pack's punter since 2010, but they'll move forward with Jake Schum, who was claimed off waivers on Tuesday. Masthay was due $1.2 million after coming in 14th in net-punting average last season. He'll get calls whenever someone needs a punter.
