Hunter Harvey has been shut down for the remainder of the 2014 season with a right elbow strain.

Harvey doesn't need surgery and the Orioles are just being overly careful with their first-round pick from 2013. The 19-year-old right-hander owns a 2.87 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 106/33 K/BB ratio through his first 113 innings as a pro. He should begin the 2015 season in High-A ball.

Matt Harvey (elbow) has been cleared to begin throwing off a mound next week.

Harvey was hoping to hop on a mound in June, but the Mets decided to play it safe and nixed that idea. The right-hander could get some innings in a fall instructional league but won't return to the majors until 2015.

Oswaldo Arcia is not in the Twins' lineup Wednesday.

Arcia welcomed a son on Tuesday and is apparently not back with the club. He should return on Thursday.

T.J. House will take the rotation spot left vacant by Wednesday's trade of Justin Masterson.

Masterson was shipped to the Cardinals in exchange for outfielder prospect James Ramsey. House owns a rough 4.50 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 50 innings this season at the major league level and is not a good fantasy option.

Avisail Garcia (shoulder) has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment Friday at Triple-A Charlotte.

Garcia will start out playing designated hitter before eventually shifting to the outfield. The White Sox are expected to take it slowly with the 23-year-old, who tore his left shoulder labrum in early April. He could be activated around late August if all goes well.

Nate Jones underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday.

Jones had been out since the first week of the season because of a lower back injury and apparently tore his UCL while rehabbing. The 28-year-old right-handed reliever will be sidelined for the majority of 2015.
Jul 30 - 4:36 PM

Chris Davis (flu) is out again Wednesday.

Davis was sent home early on Tuesday with flu-like symptoms and is still battling the illness. Steve Pearce is starting at first base Wednesday night versus the Angels.
Jul 30 - 4:26 PM

Dodgers optioned 2B Darwin Barney to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Barney was acquired from the Cubs earlier this week for pitcher Jonathan Martinez, but the 28-year-old infielder is going to get some time in the minors before joining Los Angeles' active roster. Barney is an elite defender at second base, but he owns a .244/.290/.335 career slash line at the major league level.
