Broncos hired Wade Phillips as defensive coordinator.

Everyone except irrational Cowboys fans seems to realize how great a coach and defensive mind Phillips is. This is a fantastic hire for the Broncos, who reunite Gary Kubiak with Phillips after the two teamed to turn the Texans into a legitimate Super Bowl contender in the early 2010s. Phillips runs a n aggressive "one-gap" 3-4 defense, which will play to the edge-rushing strengths of Von Miller and DeMarcus Ware. Outgoing DC Jack Del Rio essentially refused to blitz in 2014, and ultimately failed to maximize Denver's otherworldly defensive talent.

Brandon LaFell (shoulder, toe) has been removed from the Patriots' injury report.

LaFell is practicing in full this week. His Super Bowl status was never in doubt.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the 49ers are expected to promote QBs coach Geep Chryst to offensive coordinator.

This was expected when the 49ers hired Steve Logan as QBs coach. The 49ers are staying in-house after Rob Chudzinski re-signed with the Colts. Chryst has been San Francisco's quarterbacks coach the last four seasons and has limited playcalling experience, but briefly served as the Chargers' offensive coordinator from 1999-2000. It's not an exciting hire for a team that already has an unproven coach in Jim Tomsula. The 49ers will be more pass heavy under Chryst.

The Seahawks have opened extension talks with RCB Byron Maxwell.

An impending free agent, re-signing Maxwell is one of GM John Schneider's top priorities. He's been a major part of Seattle's defense the last two years since taking over for Brandon Browner, and would draw interest from multiple teams on the open market. Maxwell is Rotoworld's No. 1 free-agent corner.

Free agent CB Ike Taylor said he's "training as if he'll be playing in 2015."

Taylor isn't expected to be re-signed by the Steelers, but reportedly wants to play 2-3 more years. He's open to moving to safety to prolong his career. Entering his age 35 season, Taylor will struggle for guaranteed money on the open market. Taylor has interest in following ex-Steelers DC Dick LeBeau to another team.

Louisville DC Todd Grantham has turned down the Raiders' defensive coordinator job.

The Raiders made a two-year offer to Grantham, but he'll remain at Louisville as one of the highest paid college coordinators. Grantham may not have been given full control over playcalling under Jack Del Rio, which likely factored into his decision. The Raiders have been linked to Wade Phillips and interviewed ex-Falcons coach Mike Smith earlier this month, but have no other known candidates for their DC job.

Prince Amukamara (biceps) expects to be ready for the start of OTAs.

Amukamara missed the final eight games of 2014 with a torn biceps. He's scheduled to make $6.898 million next year after the Giants exercised his fifth-year option and could be a candidate for an extension. Amukamara had 46 tackles, three interceptions, and 11 pass deflections despite playing just 464 snaps last season.

Jaguars hired Nathaniel Hackett as QBs coach.

Hackett was also in the running for the Rams offensive coordinator vacancy, but pulled out of his second interview. In Jacksonville, he'll settle for a position coach role after serving as Buffalo's OC the last two years. Hackett will be tasked with developing Blake Bortles, who is coming off a turnover-filled rookie season.
