Matt Carpenter finished 3-for-4 with a solo homer and two runs scored Monday in the Cardinals' defeat of the Royals.

Carpenter was one of the coldest hitters in the majors through the first seven weeks of the 2018 regular season, but he has now logged two straight three-hit games and he has 13 hits over his last 24 at-bats. The 32-year-old corner infielder is locked-in and worth adding again in mixed fantasy leagues.

Jake Lamb hit his first homer and walked twice Monday against the Brewers.

Lamb's first homer came in his third game back from the DL and seventh game overall this season. He should be of some use in mixed leagues the rest of the way, though the humidor is going to take a toll.

Chris Owings went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts as the Diamondbacks' No. 2 hitter in Monday's loss.

Owings, who was slated to be a utilityman once the Diamondbacks settled on Nick Ahmed as a shortstop, has had every opportunity he could have hoped for because of the team's injuries, yet he's done nothing with them. He's hitting .198/.263/.302 in 126 at-bats. He's even been thrown out on three of seven steal attempts after going 21-for-23 in 119 games in 2016 and 12-for-14 in 97 games last year.

Ian Kennedy fell to 1-5 after yielding five earned runs over 5 2/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Kennedy issued just one walk and struck out five, but the Cardinals tagged him for nine hits -- including a Tyler O'Neill three-run homer in the bottom of the third inning. Kennedy has a 5.30 ERA and 1.54 WHIP in 52 2/3 innings this season with Kansas City.

Tyler O'Neill hit his third home run in as many days as the Cardinals beat the Royals on Monday.

It was a three-run third-inning opposite-field blast off Royals starter Ian Kennedy. O'Neill also hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fifth, finishing the night 2-for-4 with four total RBI. He deserves to continue starting in right field over Dexter Fowler, who's slashing .160/.281/.292 this season.

Miles Mikolas threw his first MLB shutout, tallying nine strikeouts against just one walk, in the Cardinals' 5-0 win over the Royals on Monday.

It was also the first-ever complete game at the MLB level for Mikolas, who is 6-0 with a brilliant 2.24 ERA and 46/6 K/BB ratio in 60 1/3 innings this season. The former member of the Padres and Rangers signed a two-year, $15.5 million free agent contract with St. Louis this winter after spending three years in Japan. He clearly figured something out overseas.

Jason Vargas earned his first win for the Mets after striking out seven over five innings in a 2-0 shutout of the Marlins on Monday

Vargas, who had his last start skipped, lowered his ERA from 13.86 to 9.87 tonight. He could have some modest NL-only value if he's gotten things turned around now, but there isn't a lot of upside here.
May 21 - 10:50 PM

Elieser Hernandez yielded one run over five innings Monday in a loss to the Mets.

Just like his last start, when he took a no-decision against the Dodgers. It's impressive what Hernandez is doing, considering that the Rule 5 pick had never pitched above A-ball coming into the season. Still, we wouldn't recommend taking a shot in fantasy leagues, even if he figures to stay in the rotation for now.
