Brewers optioned SS Orlando Arcia to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Arcia has given the Brew Crew stellar defense this season, but he's batted just .194/.233/.273 and the team has decided to let him work on his offense in the minors for a while. Milwaukee figures to use some combination of Eric Sogard, Jonathan Villar, Hernan Perez and Tyler Saladino at shortstop.

Brewers acquired C Erik Kratz from the Yankees for a player to be named later or cash, purchased his contract from Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The Brewers have decided they'd rather have Kratz as their backup catcher than Jett Bandy, who was designated for assignment. Kratz, who turns 38 in a few weeks, is a career .203/.250/.366 hitter over parts of eight major league seasons.

Brewers designated C Jett Bandy for assignment.

The Brewers have traded for Erik Kratz and he'll now be Manny Pina's backup. Bandy is hitting just .188/.268/.266 this season.

Braves recalled RHP Matt Wisler from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Wisler holds a 3.63 ERA across three starts for the Braves this season. He'll be available in long relief for now but it's possible he'll get another start.

Braves placed LHP Luiz Gohara on the bereavement list.

Gohara is headed to his native Brazil to be with his ailing mother. He'll be back sometime next week, but which role he'll fill at that point looks up in the air.

Giants activated OF Mac Williamson from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Williamson missed a month of action with a concussion but looked good on his rehab assignment and is starting in left field and batting seventh for the Giants on Friday in Chicago. Swing changes over the offseason have unlocked some of Williamson's raw power, which he displayed before going on the DL with three homers in five games. He's worth a shot again in deeper leagues.

Red Sox activated 2B Dustin Pedroia from the 10-day disabled list.

Pedroia missed almost the first two months of the season after having a cartilage restoration procedure on his left knee last October, but he's ready to go now after five rehab games with Triple-A Pawtucket (he went just 1-for-14 at the plate in those games). He will hit lower in the order than his usual No. 2 spot, at least initially, and will turn 35 later this season. Pedroia is probably still a good bet for batting average but seems unlikely to bring much else to the table for fantasy owners.

Red Sox designated 1B/DH Hanley Ramirez for assignment.

Alex Speier of the Boston Globe was first to report the news and the Red Sox have made the move official. Ramirez batted .330/.400/.474 in April, but a 0-for-20 stretch pushed his batting line for the season down to .254/.313/.395. Still, the move comes a surprise given that he has the third-most starts on the Red Sox this season and hit in the middle of the order in all of those starts. A $22 million option for 2019 would've triggered had Ramirez reached 497 plate appearances this season, something that no doubt factored into the Red Sox' decision here. Mitch Moreland will see a bump in playing time with Ramirez out of the picture.
