Jon Gray allowed one earned run while scattering eight hits with no walks and a season-high 12 strikeouts over seven innings in a win Friday against Miami.

Gray leveled his record at 7-7, throwing 69 of his 99 pitches for strikes. He has logged at least nine strikeouts across each of his past three outings. Gray entered Friday's outing with batters hitting .301 against him, and he allowed eight hits in this one. He has a 5.52 ERA and 1.45 WHIP through 16 starts, so he needs a lot of run support to tick off wins for his fantasy owners.

J.T. Realmuto finished 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and a run scored in Friday's 11-3 loss at Colorado.

Realmuto is putting up the best offensive numbers of any backstop in the National League. It's too bad voters are not taking notice, as he isn't in the Top 5 in positional voting. He has nabbed 11 bases stealers in 15 attempts, and he is slashing .304/.360/.535 to make his fantasy owners happy. He'll look to keep it rolling against RHP Tyler Anderson (4-2, 4.52 ERA, 1.33 WHIP) on Saturday.

Derek Dietrich went 3-for-5 with a double and a solo home run in Friday's 11-3 loss at Colorado.

Dietrich has turned up the intensity at the plate in the month of June, going 24-for-66 (.364) with five doubles, three home runs and seven RBI to raise his average from .266 to .291 since flipping the calendar from May. He has nine multi-hit games for the Marlins in June, setting the table rather nicely for manager Don Mattingly.

Wei-Yin Chen was tagged for seven earned runs, nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts over four innings at Colorado on Friday.

Chen was getting ahead of hitters, throwing first-pitch strikes to 17 of the 22 batters he faced, but he was throwing it right over the dish for Colorado batters to hammer. His ERA ballooned from 5.91 to 6.70 as a result of the outing. He has just one victory across his past 10 starts dating back to April 28 when he beat the Rockies in his season debut.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said after Friday's game that he expects Xander Bogaerts (finger) to return to the lineup on Sunday.

It sounds as though the club will give him Saturday off as a precautionary measure after suffering a sprained right index finger while sliding into second base during Friday's game against the Mariners. For the moment, it sounds as though he was able to avoid significant injury and shouldn't require a trip to the disabled list.

Manny Machado slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the 15th inning as the Orioles defeated the Braves 10-7 on Friday.

It was a wild night in Atlanta, but Machado’s blast off Peter Moylan finally put the Orioles ahead for good. Machado went 2-for-5 on the night with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. He’s been pretty quiet this month, but he still owns a quality .305/.374/.561 batting line with 19 homers and 55 RBI over 73 games. The trade chatter should continue to build in the coming days.
Jun 23 - 2:16 AM

Sean Newcomb fired seven innings of one-run ball as part of a no-decision against the Orioles on Friday.

His only mistake was a solo homer off the bat of Chris Davis in the fifth inning. Newcomb fanned three and walked a pair while lowering his ERA to 2.59 for the year. He’s allowed two earned runs or fewer in four out of his last five starts. The control has been better and he’s getting the ball on the ground more often, so we’re witnessing a solid breakthrough here. His next start comes against the Reds at home.
Jun 23 - 2:15 AM

Alex Cobb didn’t factor into the decision after limiting the Braves to one run over seven innings on Friday.

Cobb held the Braves scoreless until Johan Camargo doubled home a run in his final inning of work. The veteran right-hander surrendered just four hits on the night while walking a pair and striking out six. Outings like this one have been few and far between for Cobb this season. Even with Friday’s performance, he holds a 6.56 ERA and 1.63 WHIP on the year. Fantasy owners should continue to steer clear.
