Jordy Mercer mashed a solo homer and drove in three runs Tuesday against the Braves.

Mercer took R.A. Dickey over the boards in the sixth inning and has now reached base in five of nine career plate appearances versus the knuckleballer. He then put the Pirates ahead in the top of the ninth following a long rain delay, but Pittsburgh coughed up the lead in the bottom of the frame. Mercer is sporting an unappetizing .215/.323/.299 batting line on the season.

Todd Frazier finished 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Tuesday's game at Arizona.

It was just the fifth homer of the season for Frazier, who has been a bit of a disappointment since coming over from the Reds after the 2015 season. While he belted a career-high 40 homers last year on the south side, he posted a career-worst .225. This season he is hitting a paltry .192, although he is showing signs of life with eight hits over his past 30 hits (.267).

X-rays on Yonder Alonso's right wrist came back negative.

Alonso was lifted from Tuesday's game after being hit by a pitch, but he's managed to escape with just a bruise. He'll probably still be sore for a bit, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him sit out a game or two. Alonso just returned to the lineup Tuesday after missing time with a knee injury.

Jose Abreu finished 2-for-5 with a solo home run and two runs scored in Tuesday's game at Arizona.

Abreu was ice cold out of the chute, failing to hit his first home run of the season until April 29. Since then he has started to make up for lost time, belting nine homers over the past 23 outings. He has also hit safely in each of the past five and eight of the past nine.

Joc Pederson left Tuesday's game in the Cardinals after an outfield collision with Yasiel Puig.

Pederson took an elbow to the face from Puig before crashing head-first into the outfield wall. Both players were running full-speed on a liner to right-center that Puig actually managed to haul in. Pederson laid sprawled on the ground in obvious pain for a couple of minutes before eventually walking off slowly alongside team trainers. Enrique Hernandez took over in center field.

Yonder Alonso was removed from Tuesday's game against the Marlins after getting hit in the right wrist by a pitch.

Alonso stayed in to run, but Mark Canha replaced him at first base to open the top of the seventh inning. Alonso homered in the bottom of the second -- his 13th home run of the year -- before leaving after the HBP in the bottom of the sixth. He had just missed a handful of games with a knee sprain. The first baseman is probably headed for X-rays.

Lance McCullers lasted just five innings but got a win Tuesday, holding the Tigers scoreless in a 6-2 victory.

The only hit McCullers surrendered was a Miguel Cabrera infield single in the fourth inning. However, he walked a pair, hit a batter and struck out five to push his pitch count to 96 and Astros manager A.J. Hinch decided that was enough. He's gone seven frames just twice this season, but McCullers boasts a 2.43 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 65/17 K/BB ratio over 59 1/3 innings. He'll take on the Orioles at home on Sunday.
May 23 - 11:50 PM

Jordan Zimmermann allowed four runs -- two earned -- over six frames in Tuesday's loss to the Astros.

It was about as ugly as a quality start can get, with Zimmermann only striking out three, walking two and serving up a pair of home runs. Still, he'll take it given that he hadn't posted a quality start since his first start of the season back on April 8. He'll carry a 5.86 ERA into Chicago versus the White Sox on Sunday.
