Jacob Turner (shoulder) could throw off a mound as soon as this weekend.

Turner will throw off flat ground for the second straight day Wednesday. The right-hander is expected to make at least one rehab start before being activated from the disabled list. Early May seems like a realistic target date.

MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports that "it appears" Kevin Slowey will start on Sunday against the Mariners.

The Marlins are sending Brad Hand back to the bullpen after a pair of ineffective starts. Slowey holds a 4.38 ERA and 7/4 K/BB ratio over 12 1/3 relief inning this season. He put up a 4.21 ERA in 14 starts with the Marlins last season.

Adam Jones is in the Orioles' lineup Wednesday.

Jones had been slated to sit out Tuesday's game due to illness before it was rained out, but he's feeling better now and won't have to miss any action after all. The outfielder is batting .240/.278/.380 with one homer and five RBI on the young season.

Todd Dybas of the Tacoma News Tribune reports that the Mariners offered Kendrys Morales a three-year, $30 million extension after last year's All-Star break.

Knowing what he knows now, Morales surely would have accepted the offer. The M's also extended Morales a qualifying offer after the season and had multiple talks over the winter about a deal, but the first baseman/DH remains a free agent. At this point, Morales seems likely to wait until after the draft to sign so the team that gets him won't lose a first-round pick.

Ryan Braun is not in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday.

Braun has taken some ugly swings so far in the series against the Cardinals, as it appears his thumb might be bothering him again. Logan Schafer is getting the start in right field against Joe Kelly.

Derek Jeter (quad) is not in the lineup in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs.

Jeter probably wasn't going to play in both games, so it makes sense to rest him in the afternoon tilt. It will be the third straight contest he's missed with a sore quad, but he should be back in there this evening. Dean Anna is getting another start at shortstop.

Juan Carlos Oviedo (elbow) will be re-evaluated after his next rehab appearance with Triple-A Durham on Thursday.

Rays manager Joe Maddon indicated on Monday that Oviedo was about a week away, but it sounds like he could be a possibility for this weekend. The reliever figures to begin in middle relief but could eventually work his way into a setup role.

Jeremy Hellickson's first bullpen session since arthroscopic elbow surgery has been pushed back a few days.

Hellickson had been slated for his first mound work on Tuesday. It doesn't appear that he's had a setback, so it could just be a weather issue. Hellickson is aiming to rejoin the Rays' rotation in late May or early June.
