Braves optioned RHP Ryan Kelly to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Kelly was with the club for just one day as an emergency arm in the bullpen. He'll continue to provide organizational depth at Triple-A and should once again get the call the next time an extra arm is required.

Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Orioles have emerged as a strong possibility to acquire Gerardo Para from the Brewers.

The Orioles continue to believe that they are in the thick of the race for one of the Wild Cards in the American League, and Parra would certainly be an upgrade both offensively and defensively. As the O's don't have the necessary prospects to land any of the top outfielders on the market, Parra seems like a tremendous fit.

David Buchanan will be recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start for the Phillies on Friday.

He'll take the rotation spot of Cole Hamels who was dealt to the Rangers on Wednesday. The 26-year-old owns a 7.00 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 19/18 K/BB ratio over 36 innings in seven starts for the Phillies this season. He remains an unappealing fantasy option.

Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Cubs are pushing hard to acquire Tyson Ross from the Padres.

Rival executives are convinced that the right-hander will be moved before Friday's trade deadline, with the Cubs as the club showing the most interest at the moment. The 28-year-old right-hander is relatively inexpensive and under team control through 2017, meaning the Padres should be able to net a nice return package.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Diamondbacks have made an offer to the Reds for star closer Aroldis Chapman.

It is still somewhat puzzling that the Diamondbacks maintain such a high level of interest in acquiring Chapman, as a closer is a luxury and would seemingly be a waste in their current situation. However, if they have serious intentions on competing in 2016 and view him as the missing piece, it makes some sense. The Reds are in desperate need of rotation help and the Diamondbacks do possess several interesting young arms. Stay tuned.

Jay Bruce - OF - Reds

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Mets are attempting to acquire Jay Bruce from the Reds.

The Reds reportedly have interest in Zack Wheeler, though there would likely have to be other pieces involved to make a deal work. The Mets remain in the market for an outfielder and are also believed to have varying levels of interest in Gerardo Parra, Justin Upton, Yoenis Cespedes and Will Venable.
Jul 30 - 10:03 PM

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Cubs, Blue Jays, Dodgers, Yankees and Giants are all in the mix to acquire Yovani Gallardo from the Rangers.

As perhaps the top hurler left on the open market, the price for Gallardo has likely risen now that Johnny Cueto, David Price and Cole Hamels have already been dealt. With the recent injuries in the Yankees rotation, they may be the most desperate club at the moment. Expect the bidding to escalate quickly.

Pablo Sandoval is considered day-to-day after being diagnosed with a left forearm contusion.

Sandoval was forced to leave Thursday's contest against the White Sox after being hit by a pitch. It appears as though he didn't sustain any structural damage though and should be ready to return to the lineup at some point over the weekend.
