Angels general manager Billy Eppler said Friday that tests on Andrew Heaney's left elbow "ranged from normal wear and tear consistent with age and usage to some degree of tear."

In other words, his ulnar collateral ligament is compromised, but the damage appears to be minimal enough that Heaney will try to rehab it first. "Opting for conservative care like other pitchers have done," Eppler said. Even if the rehab works, Heaney is going to be sidelined for a while longer and the chances of the ligament eventually blowing out are pretty high.

Athletics activated 3B Danny Valencia from the 15-day disabled list.

There is no timetable for when Josh Hamilton (knee) will resume baseball activities.

Hamilton was pulled off his rehab assignment after just one game after feeling soreness in his surgically-repaired left knee. He's been given a cortisone shot and is working out at the Texas Metroplex Institute in Arlington. Rangers general manager Jon Daniels conceded that it's unlikely Hamilton will ever be 100 percent healthy again. "I don’t think that’s anybody’s expectation at this point. It’s more about getting to a level where he’s comfortable playing on it," he said.

Justin Bour (finger) is hoping to return to the Marlins' lineup sometime over the weekend.

Bour suffered a dislocated left pinkie finger on Tuesday while diving back into second base. He was examined by a hand specialist on Thursday and it sounds like he could be cleared to return to action as soon as Friday. Bour is hitting .276/.341/.461 with three homers so far this season.

Jason Heyward (wrist) is back in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Heyward missed four starts with a sore right wrist, although he replaced Dexter Fowler during Thursday's game after Fowler was ejected. The 26-year-old is hitting just .207/.311/.250 so far this season. The Cubs also have Javier Baez at shortstop and Tommy La Stella at third base Friday, with Addison Russell and Jorge Soler on the bench and Kris Bryant in left field.
