Mike Fiers was pounded for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Angels on Friday.

This is the first time Fiers has gotten lit up, but even his good starts haven't been great. He's 3-3 with a 5.20 ERA after this one, and he'd seem to be in serious jeopardy of losing his spot.

Chris Devenski pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings after Mike Fiers' early exit Friday against the Angels.

The 59-pitch outing was his second in relief since he was bumped from the Astros rotation last week. He would be the obvious choice to step in now if the team decided to demote Fiers.
May 28 - 1:09 AM

Colin Moran collected his first two major league hits and RBI against the Angels on Friday.

Moran's single in the ninth plated the Astros' only two runs of the game. He's 2-for-16 since being called up 11 days ago. The slow start has already resulted in him playing less than originally expected, but this could help some.
May 28 - 1:07 AM

Michael Fulmer shut out the A's for 7 2/3 innings to win Friday.

Fulmer struck out just three, but that, combined with only one walk surrendered, helped him work deep into the game against arguably the AL's weakest offense. He's 4-1 with a 3.97 ERA and a 36/11 K/BB ratio in 34 innings since joining the Tigers. He's establishing himself as a mixed-league option.
May 28 - 1:04 AM

Sean Manaea yielded three runs in six-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Tigers.

If only just barely, it was still Manaea's second quality start in six tries since he was called up at the end of April. His rotation spot seems rather secure, even if his performance hasn't justified it yet. He'll face the Twins at home next time out.
May 28 - 1:01 AM

Nick Castellanos hit his 10th homer of the year as part of a 2-for-4 game against the A's on Friday.

Castellanos is already two-thirds of the way to his 2015 home run total in barely thirty percent as many plate appearances. As poor as his plate discipline in, it's still hard to see him maintaining this kind of production all year. He's been stellar so far, though.
May 28 - 1:00 AM

Yonder Alonso went 0-for-4 in the loss to the Tigers on Friday.

Alonso has picked it up some after a brutal April, but even so, he's still hitting a modest .254/.322/.324 with no homers in May. The A's might run out of patience and give Max Mundy an extended look soon.
May 28 - 12:58 AM

Aaron Hill continued his power surge against the Reds on Friday, blasting a pair of home runs in a 9-5 victory.

Hill registered the first and only three homer game of his career earlier in the month against this same Reds pitching staff. Hill tagged starter John Lamb for a solo homer that tied the game at 3-3 in the fourth inning, then replicated the feat in the fifth. Hill also singled in the contest, finishing the night 3-for-4 to raise his season slash up to .271/.340/.443 to go along with six homers and 19 RBI.
