According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Cubs have "at least considered" making a run at Francisco Liriano.

Liriano's trade market is heating up. The Cubs are known to be targeting Yu Darvish and Justin Verlander but Liriano could be their fallback option if those plans fall through. Aside from the Cubs, Liriano has also drawn interest from the Astros, Dodgers, Royals and Twins. Of the teams just mentioned, Kansas City has pursued Liriano the most aggressively.

Robert Gsellman (hamstring) allowed three hits, one walk and one run over 2/3 of an inning Thursday in a rehab start for Double-A Binghamton.

It was not a good outing for Gsellman, who was lifted after throwing just 26 pitches. Obviously he'll need at least a couple more appearances before he's ready to rejoin the Mets' rotation. A hamstring strain has sidelined the right-hander since late June.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Rangers remain undecided on whether to trade Yu Darvish.

This would explain why Texas hasn't pulled the trigger yet despite widespread interest in the right-hander. Clearly the Rangers are torn on whether they should start trading away parts or stand pat and try to compete for a Wild Card spot. Holding onto Darvish would be risky as his contract is up at the end of the year and there's no guarantee the Rangers would be able to re-sign him. The Rangers could cover themselves by extending Darvish a qualifying offer, which would entitle them to draft pick compensation if he signs elsewhere. The Cubs and Dodgers will be among Darvish's top suitors if the Rangers decide to trade him.

Neil Walker (hamstring) will join the Mets Friday in advance of their series opener against the Mariners.

Walker has concluded his rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas and will be activated in time for Friday night's game in Seattle. He should resume his post as the Mets' everyday second baseman with Asdrubal Cabrera likely shifting over to third base. It took Walker roughly six weeks to recover from a partially torn hamstring.

According to Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News, the Rangers are "open to discussing" Keone Kela in trade talks.

The Rangers are also said to be shopping Jeremy Jeffress. Kela has pitched well for Texas this year but ruffled some feathers within the organization for his behavior in spring training, which resulted in a brief minor league demotion. It's been a turbulent year for the Rangers' bullpen, though left-hander Alex Claudio seems to have settled in as the closer. Kela is under team control through 2020.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Brewers have shown interest in Curtis Granderson.

The sides don't appear to be in advanced talks but there has been some dialogue. Center field has been a revolving door for the Brewers, who recently called up top prospect Lewis Brinson to replace a slumping Keon Broxton. Granderson has seen a reduction in playing time recently with Jay Bruce, Yoenis Cespedes and Michale Conforto making up the Mets' starting outfield. The 36-year-old's contract is up after this year, so he'd only be a rental.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Diamondbacks are among teams interested in Brandon Kintzler.

The Twins have quickly become sellers and Kintzler should be among the most coveted relievers leading up to Monday's trade deadline. Despite a low strikeout rate, the 32-year-old ranks second in the American League with 27 saves. Boston is looking for relief help with setup man Joe Kelly on the disabled list while the D'Backs may be looking for an alternative to closer Fernando Rodney, who has struggled to a 5.23 ERA this year. Left-hander Taylor Rogers would be next in line for saves in Minnesota if Kintzler gets traded.

Pirates optioned LHP Steven Brault to Triple-A Indianapolis.

That will clear a spot for Jordan Luplow, who is expected to be called up on Friday. Brault spent a few days with the big club, registering a 4.50 ERA across two relief appearances. He'll be back with the Bucs in September, if not sooner.
