Corey Kluber allowed three runs -- one earned -- while striking out eight across seven innings of work in an 8-3 win over the Rockies.

None of the Rockies regular season starters took the field today but it was still a strong effort from the Indians' ace. He gave up five hits and one walk to go with the eight punchouts. It hasn't been the best of spring trainings for Kluber as he owns a 5.40 ERA in 18 1/3 innings in his four starts, but the shaky results shouldn't worry his fantasy owners. The fact they let him go eight innings is a good sign he is healthy and ready for the season to begin in less than two weeks.

Steven Wright struck out three over 4 1/3 frames of shutout ball against the Pirates on Thursday.

He gave up just two hits and one walk along the way. Wright's recovery from an injury to his left (non-throwing) shoulder took way longer than expected, but he's now gone out and fired 9 1/3 shutout innings this spring. He looks healthy and needs to be taken seriously as a fantasy commodity again.

An MRI on Eduardo Nunez's right shoulder determined that surgery won't be necessary.

Nunez's right shoulder has bothered him all spring but at least he won't need surgery. He had a cortisone shot on Wednesday, which should dull the pain, at least temporarily. Nunez's goal is to be ready for Opening Day against the Diamondbacks on April 2. That gives him 10 days to get healthy.

Drew Hutchison was roughed up for six runs on 10 hits and two walks over 4 2/3 frames versus the Red Sox on Thursday.

Seven of the 10 hits were singles, but that's not really comforting. Hutchison looked good in his first three starts this spring but has now been pummeled for six runs each of the last two times out, allowing a whopping 23 baserunners along the way. He'll have to shape up in a hurry if he wants a spot in the Pirates' rotation.
Mar 23 - 6:28 PM

Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored on Thursday against the Pirates.

He also drew a walk, reaching base in all four of his trips to the plate. Pedroia had knee surgery last October but certainly looks healthy this spring, hitting an even .500 across his 26 at-bats. He'll be the Red Sox' leadoff hitter this season.

Starling Marte cranked a grand slam off of the Red Sox' Heath Hembree on Thursday.

It was Marte's only hit in four trips to the dish, although he also plated an additional run with an RBI groundout. Marte's Grapefruit League action was interrupted by the World Baseball Classic and a minor ankle injury, but he's 6-for-15 with a home run and a couple steals so far.

Rays pitching prospect Austin Pruitt whiffed five over four shutout frames Thursday against the Yankees.

Another impressive showing from Pruitt, who now boasts a 1.84 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 16/2 K/BB ratio over 14 2/3 frames this spring. Pruitt is 27 and isn't really viewed as much of a prospect, but he pitched well last season between Double- and Triple-A and could make his big league debut in 2017.
Mar 23 - 6:18 PM

Yankees pitching prospect Jordan Montgomery yielded two runs but struck out eight over 4 1/3 innings versus the Rays on Thursday.

One of the runs charged to the lefty scored after he was pulled. It was another impressive showing from Montgomery, who got Evan Longoria swinging twice among his eight punchouts. It was the first start this spring for Montgomery after his first four appearances came in relief, and he's thrust himself into the rotation competition with a 3.68 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 13/2 K/BB ratio across 14 2/3 frames.
