While it wasn't the complete sweep that Royals fans had pushed so hard for, four Royals were voted in as starters for the American League squad in the 2015 All-Star game.

Alcides Escobar and Salvador Perez were each the leading vote getters at their respective positions, while Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon finished second and third respectively in the outfield. They'll join Miguel Cabrera, Jose Altuve, Josh Donaldson, Nelson Cruz and Mike Trout as the fan's picks to start the mid-summer classic, though Cabrera is on the disabled list and will not be able to play in the game.

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Marlins will recall Jordany Valdespin from Triple-A New Orleans.

He'll take the spot of Marcell Ozuna on the Marlins active roster after the outfielder was demoted on Sunday. Valdespin was pulled from his game at Triple-A shortly afterwards and is heading to join the team in Boston for Tuesday's game, though the move hasn't been announced yet.

Yasmany Tomas went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and three RBI in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Tomas launched his fifth homer in the season when he took Jorge De La Rosa deep to right for a solo shot in the second inning. He also drove in runs with a sacrifice fly and a single, finishing out 2-for-3. The Cuban import has played well in his first 65 major league games, slashing .315/.352/.448 with five homers and 35 RBI. Given that the Diamondbacks didn't feel confident enough with Tomas to carry him on the Opening Day roster, he's shown an impressive development to this point and could reasonably put up improved power numbers in the second half of the season. The average is already there.
Jul 5 - 7:59 PM

Troy Tulowitzki hit a three-run homer in the first inning and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Tulowitzki's three-run bomb in the first inning was his ninth homer of the season. He's been his typically brilliant self this season, slashing .321/.358/.489. While the power's down from some of his best seasons, Tulo's been healthy to this point, which is what matters most for the oft-injured star. Management has stressed that the shortstop won't be traded, but expect his name to at least surface in rumors over the next three weeks, even if he doesn't ultimately change uniforms.
Jul 5 - 7:56 PM

Jorge De La Rosa posted a quality start in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks, allowing two runs on five hits over six innings.

De La Rosa was facing off with Diamondback starter Rubby De La Rosa. The Rockies' species of De La Rosa far out-pitched the Diamondback species, holding the home team down for just a pair of runs over six innings. Yasmany Tomas accounted for both runs on his line with a solo home run in the second inning and a sacrifice fly in the sixth. For the season, De La Rosa is pitching to a 4.46 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 66/37 K/BB ratio in 70 2/3 innings. A home start against the Braves finishes out his schedule before the All-Star Break.
Jul 5 - 7:54 PM

Rubby De La Rosa struggled in Sunday's loss to the Rockies, allowing six runs on eight hits over five-plus innings.

De La Rosa was bit by the home run bug, serving up a three-run shot to Troy Tulowitzki in the first inning and a two-run bomb to Carlos Gonzalez in the sixth. The rough start pushed an already lackluster ERA from 4.60 to 4.89. In addition, De La Rosa holds a 1.27 WHIP and 97/27 K/BB ratio over 106 2/3 innings. The strikeouts are there, and De La Rosa had pitched well in his previous four starts, but these kinds of big letdowns are ERA killers. He'll try to get back on the right track when he takes on the Mets at Citi Field in the Diamondbacks' final game before the All-Star Break.
Jul 5 - 7:52 PM

Wilmer Flores posted his third straight game with three-plus hits in Sunday's 8-0 win over the Dodgers, finishing 4-for-5 with two doubles and three RBI.

The way he's going, Flores is probably dreading the All-Star Break. He hit an RBI single in the first inning against Mets starter Mike Bolsinger, then followed it up with a run-scoring infield single in the fourth and an RBI double in the eighth. Flores is 11 for his last 16 and has recorded three or more hits in each of his last three games. Overall, he's hitting .258/.289/.412 with 10 homers, 38 RBI and 31 runs scored.
Jul 5 - 7:28 PM

Yasiel Puig went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in Sunday's loss to the Mets.

The Dodgers managed just three hits as a team, with Puig managing zero of them. He has played in just 36 games this season while dealing with various injuries and his lack of consistency is understandable. Should he find a way to stay on the field for an extended amount of time, we like him to improve on his current .278/.368/.444 triple-slash. It should at least be noted, though, that after a world-beating debut in 2013, his slash numbers dropped in 2014 and have further dipped over the first half of his 2015 campaign. We'll see if he can reverse that trend in the second half of the season.
