Chris Perez (shoulder) allowed three homers and five runs in an inning of work in his second rehab appearance with Double-A Akron.

Perez gave up five hits overall and also hit a batter. The right-hander was supposed to be activated from the disabled list on Friday, but the Indians might re-think that after tonight's showing. Vinnie Pestano owners should hang on to him.
Jun 18 - 7:55 PM

Clay Buchholz (neck) was able to throw a bullpen session on Tuesday.

It's a good sign that he'll be able to avoid the disabled list and start on Saturday in Detroit. The Red Sox should provide an update on his status later Tuesday or Wednesday. If Buchholz can't go, Allen Webster or Rubby De La Rosa would likely get the ball.

Jacoby Ellsbury went 3-for-5 with a triple, a double and three runs scored as the Red Sox beat the Rays 5-1 in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Ellsbury didn't steal any bases, but that's OK; he's batting .347 with 10 steals and 12 runs scored in 11 games this month. He'll be in center field again for the nightcap versus the Rays.
Jun 18 - 7:47 PM

Alfredo Aceves pitched five innings of one-run ball for a victory in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays.

Aceves was at just 75 pitches when the rains came and ended his outing. He walked three today, all in the second inning. That was when the run scored, too. Other than that, he was excellent for the third straight start. Whether he'll get another one anytime soon is up in the air.
Jun 18 - 7:46 PM

Chris Archer surrendered four runs -- three earned -- in 4 2/3 innings to take the loss in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Archer wasn't affected by the rain delay; in fact, it happened right after he was removed from the game. The loss dropped Archer to 1-3 with a 5.03 ERA. It's not looking good for his chances of keeping his rotation spot if David Price and Alex Cobb can both pull off successful returns in early July.

Wil Myers - OF - Rays

Wil Myers went 0-for-4 with a strikeout against the Red Sox in his major league debut Tuesday.

Fortunately, he won't have to wait long for a chance to redeem himself; he'll be back in right field for the second game of the doubleheader tonight. Still, game one was no picnic for him. Especially poor was that he popped up on the first pitch he saw in the second inning immediately after Alfredo Aceves walked the two batters preceding him.
Jun 18 - 7:42 PM

Mike Napoli is not in the Red Sox' lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Rays.

Napoli played the first game after sitting out the last few contests with nausea and dizziness, but he'll rest for the nightcap. Daniel Nava is at first base.
Jun 18 - 7:40 PM

Will Middlebrooks is not in the Red Sox' lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Rays.

Middlebrooks was hitless in the first game, dropping his average down to .196. Jose Iglesias is playing third base in the nightcap.
