Joakim Soria, making only his second relief appearance since joining the Tigers on July 23, allowed four runs while recording only one out against the White Sox on Tuesday.

Soria allowed an unearned run while facing four batters and recording one out on Saturday, and things got much worse on Tuesday. The veteran reliever faced seven batters, and it went as such: single, bases-clearing double, two-run home run, solo home run, ground out, single, single. Obviously, it's hardly how the Tigers have expected things to go thus far, but it's been par for their bullpen this season. Soria has a 3.71 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP, and a 43/5 K/BB ratio in 34 innings.

Stephen Strasburg allowed one run on four hits over seven innings but took the tough-luck loss against the Marlins on Tuesday.

Strasburg has now allowed two or fewer runs in three of his last five starts with no wins to show for it. On Tuesday, the right-hander struck out just four while walking two. Strasburg now owns a 7-9 record despite a 3.55 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 167/32 K/BB ratio over 144 1/3 innings this season. His luck is bound to turn around eventually, and there's no reason to think it won't start turning Sunday against the Phillies.

Adam Eaton reached base three times in five at-bats out of the lead-off spot on Tuesday, helping contribute as the White Sox handily defeated the Tigers.

Eaton has been a ball of fire since the second half began, as he's now hitting .413 (19-for-46) in his last 11 contests. He's done everything the White Sox could ask out of a lead-off hitter, as he's slashing .289/.358/.386 with 27 RBI and 10 stolen bases.

Alex Cobb struck out 12 while allowing one run over eight innings, and the Rays beat the Brewers 5-1 on Tuesday.

Cobb has now turned in back-to-back double-digit strikeout games, as he struck out 10 in a win over the Cardinals his last time out. The right-hander gave up just three hits, all singles, while walking two on the night. He's in the midst of a five-game winning streak that has his record over .500 for the first time this season at 7-6. The A's are the next team that will try to stop Cobb, as the two clubs will meet in Oakland on Monday.
Jul 29 - 10:42 PM

Victor Martinez singled three times in four at-bats, but the Tigers were routed by the White Sox on Tuesday.

The 35-year-old had been in a bit of a slump since the second half began, but he was able to enjoy his first three-hit night since June 14. Due to missing time with injuries, as well as the All-Star break, the veteran hasn't homered since July 3, but he still maintains an impressive .325/.387/.568 slash line with 21 home runs and 57 RBI. He's four home runs away from tying his career high of 25.

WEEI.com's Rob Bradford was told by a rival general manager that a Jon Lester trade is likely to be completed late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.

The Red Sox have already scratched Lester from his scheduled start Wednesday, suggesting a deal is imminent. The Brewers, Blue Jays and Orioles, three teams that have been connected to Lester, have been ruled out as potential landing spots. The Pirates, Mariners, Cardinals, Dodgers and Marlins are among the clubs that have been linked to Lester.

Carlos Gomez went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts in a loss to the Rays on Tuesday.

Gomez shouldn't feel too bad -- Rays starter Alex Cobb racked up 12 strikeouts on the evening, so his teammates did plenty of swinging and missing as well. Gomez is now 0-for-12 with six strikeouts in his last three games, dropping his slash line to .297/.359/.494. He's too talented to be mired in a slump for much longer, so a multi-hit game should be in the cards soon.
Jul 29 - 10:38 PM

Jose Abreu went 3-for-4, hitting a two-run home run and a two-run double in Tuesday's trampling of the Tigers.

Abreu added insult to injury, smoking his 31st home run in the seventh inning, accounting for the fifth and sixth runs in a seven-run frame. In the eighth, Abreu doubled in a pair of runs to make it 11-2. As a result, Abreu now leads the big leagues in RBI with 83. Just for good measure, the Cuban rookie also has a fantastic .299/.349/.632 slash line.
