The Indy Star suggests Reggie Wayne (triceps) might have his snap count reduced over the final two weeks of the regular season.

Dec 18 - 9:29 AM

Justin Forsett (ankle, knee) is no longer listed on the injury report.

Forsett has rotated out more often that usual the last two weeks, averaging 14.5 carries during that span vs. 22.0 the previous three weeks. Perhaps that knee and ankle issues were to blame. Forsett was a full participant in Wednesday's practice, a strong sign he's nearing 100 percent again ahead of Sunday's game at Houston. "I feel good," he said. "This is actually one of the best Wednesdays that I've had in a while. So, my body is feeling good, maintaining, feeling ready to go."

Alfonso Smith and Phillip Tanner are the 49ers' only healthy running backs right now.

Carlos Hyde (ankle, back) is doubtful and Frank Gore remains in the concussion protocol. Smith didn't make the team out of training camp, but was re-signed in mid-November. The veteran has rushed 52 times for 162 yards (3.11 YPC) with two touchdowns in his five-year career. Tanner, who has seen time with the Cowboys and Bills, had been on the street for the last month. Ideally, fantasy owners will be avoiding this situation.

A source tells ESPN that Jim Harbaugh is at least "considering" the Michigan job.

Harbaugh has been a lame duck coach in San Francisco for weeks now. Multiple reports have stated Michigan made a six-year, $49M offer -- a deal that would make him the highest paid coach in college football. Harbaugh was a star quarterback during his playing days at Michigan, winning Big Ten Player of the Year honors and finishing third in Heisman voting as a senior in 1986.

RB Joseph Randle handled the first-team reps during the team portion of Wednesday's practice.

DeMarco Murray (hand) participated in individual drills and even caught some passes two days after surgery, putting him on track to play against the Colts. But if he can't, Randle would handle the majority of base back duties, including goal-line work. That's key as eight of DeMarco's 11 touchdowns this season have come from three yards out or closer. Randle is the preferred handcuff while we await more news on Murray.

Bill O'Brien is declining to announce his Week 16 starter at quarterback.

It will either be Case Keenum or Thad Lewis. "I'm going to keep that one close to the vest," O'Brien said Wednesday. "Both these guys, Case and Thad, are out there working hard. Right up until game time, that's going to be the way it is." It sounds like he's going to try to keep the Ravens in the dark until Sunday morning. All Texans are hands off in fantasy Super Bowls.

C.J. Spiller (broken collarbone) took his pads off halfway through Wednesday's practice.

"Yeah, I was just getting used to" wearing them "again," Spiller said. "It's been two months since I've had them on so I just wanted to see what it felt like to put them back." It's a reminder that he can't be counted on for a major role in Sunday's game at Oakland after not taking any contact since Week 7.

A league source tells ESPN's Adam Schefter that Philip Rivers is "battling a back injury that is bigger than people realize."

Rivers has been playing banged up for a while now. A few weeks ago, Antonio Gates revealed that his quarterback has a "very severe rib injury" and now Schefter is exposing a back issue. Rivers (chest) did not practice on Tuesday or Wednesday, but will almost certainly be fine for Saturday's game at San Francisco. We wouldn't adjust any projections.
