Indians recalled RHP Danny Salazar from Triple-A Columbus.
Salazar will start for the Indians on Tuesday night against the Twins at pitcher-friendly Target Field. He posted a 2.32 ERA and 39 strikeouts over his last 31 innings (five starts) at Columbus and is worth a flier in most standard fantasy leagues. But control is still a major issue for the talented 24-year-old right-hander.
Indians optioned RHP C.C. Lee to Triple-A Columbus.
Lee has a 4.26 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in 12 2/3 innings this season for the Indians. He was sent to the minors Tuesday to clear a spot for starter Danny Salazar.
Rays recalled LHP Jeff Beliveau from Triple-A Durham.
Beliveau will give the Rays some needed bullpen depth while Joel Peralta recovers from an illness. The 27-year-old southpaw has a 3.98 career ERA in the majors.
Rays placed RHP Joel Peralta on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 13, with a virus.
The belief is that Peralta caught the chikungunya virus in the Dominican Republic over the All-Star break. It's an illness that is transferred by mosquitoes in the Caribbean and can cause nasty symptoms for over a week. He should be fine by the end of this month.
Mariners recalled RHP Erasmo Ramirez from Triple-A Tacoma.
Ramirez will start for the Mariners on Tuesday night against the Mets. The 24-year-old right-hander has considerable upside, but he owns a 4.58 ERA and 1.58 WHIP in 11 starts this season at the major league level and probably isn't worth the risk in standard fantasy formats.
Dodgers activated RHP Josh Beckett from the 15-day disabled list.
Beckett will return to the Dodgers' starting rotation on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh after sitting out for over two weeks with a hip injury. He still has a labrum tear and some cysts, but the veteran right-hander is going to try to pitch through the discomfort with the help of cortisone injections. Beckett boasts a 2.26 ERA, 1.03 WHIP, and 95/32 K/BB ratio in 103 2/3 innings this season.
Dodgers optioned LHP Paco Rodriguez to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Rodriguez has allowed 10 hits and five earned runs in 8 1/3 innings this season at the major league level. He was sent back to the minors Tuesday to clear a spot for Josh Beckett, who is back from a hip injury.
Rangers activated RHP Nick Martinez from the 15-day disabled list.
Martinez missed a little over two weeks with a left side injury. He will return to the Rangers' starting rotation on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. The 23-year-old righty owns a rough 5.10 ERA and 1.69 WHIP this season.
