Howie Kendrick left Wednesday's game against the Astros after being hit on the left hand/wrist.

Kendrick was plunked on the left hand/wrist in the third inning and was pinch-hit for one inning later. The Phillies will pass along word as to the exact nature of his injury in the coming hours.

Jeff Samardzija said that if the Giants approach him with a trade to one of the teams on his no-trade list, he is unlikely to waive his no-trade clause.

There are eight teams that the Giants could trade him to without requiring a waiving of his no-trade clause. Those outfits are the Red Sox, Cubs, Mets, Yankees, Angels, Dodgers, Athletics and Nationals. The Astros are one team that has been linked to Samardzija which would require his approval. Samardzija owns a 4.85 ERA and 1.18 WHIP in 21 starts this season.

Marlins signed 1B Chris Parmelee to a minor league contract.

The A's signed Parmelee to a minor league deal in the spring, but that did not end up working out. The 29-year-old first baseman has seen just 105 major league at-bats over the last two-plus seasons. He will serve as minor league depth for the Marlins.

J.D. Martinez went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Wednesday's 10-3 win over the Braves.

Martinez thumped a two-run homer off Luke Jackson in the fourth inning, then hit yet another two-run bomb off Ian Krol in the eighth. In five games since being traded over to the Diamondbacks from the Tigers, the outfielder has gone 4-for-17 with three homers and seven RBI. He was slashing .305/.388/.630 with 16 homers and 39 RBI in 57 games with the Tigers prior to getting shipped down to the desert.

Paul Goldschmidt went 2-for-2 with two doubles, three walks and three runs scored in Wednesday's win over the Braves.

Just a nice all-around game for Goldschmidt in this one. He has walked eight times in his last four games. For the campaign as a whole, the All-Star first baseman is slashing .314/.436/.569 with 21 homers, 75 RBI, 80 runs scored and 15 steals across an even 100 games played.

Ian Desmond (calf) is not available for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals.

Desmond required a stint on the disabled list for a right calf injury earlier this month, then came back after the All-Star break only to re-injure that same calf in Tuesday's game against the Cards. With a natural off day on Thursday, Desmond now has two days to rest up before the Rockies take on the Nationals for a three-game series this weekend.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that if the Twins continue to struggle, they would consider moving Ervin Santana and Jaime Garcia.

The Twins have lost six of their last 10 games. They just traded for Garcia, but if they decide to declare themselves as deadline sellers, he could potentially move again. Santana is the more alluring candidate, though, having pitched to a 3.26 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in this surprise All-Star campaign.

Freddie Freeman went 2-for-4 with a double in Wednesday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Freeman is up to 17 doubles on the season, now. In addition, the infielder boasts a sizzling .332/.435/.683 triple-slash with 18 homers and 39 RBI across 56 games played. Freeman has picked up hits in eight of his last 10 games and looks to be completely removed from the broken wrist which sidelined him earlier this season.
