Troy Tulowitzki went 2-for-5 and hit a grand slam Monday against the Reds.

Tulo is 3-for-11 with no strikeouts and two walks since coming off the disabled list on Friday. He's not much more than a fringe option in mixed leagues at this point, but now that the Jays are hitting, there are worse choices.

Mike Trout has elected to undergo surgery to repair a ulnar collateral ligament tear in his left thumb and will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks.

The non-surgical route could have potentially cut Trout's rehab time roughly in half, but evidently the tear was deemed severe enough that surgery was deemed the best option. It's simply a brutal blow for fantasy owners, as Trout just isn't a guy that can be replaced. As far as the Angels go, they will move Cameron Maybin over to center field and will likely use Ben Revere most of the time in left. They've also called up Eric Young Jr. to provide depth.

Eduardo Nunez (head) is battling vision issues.

Nunez was dazed after a slide home on a passed ball Sunday, as the throw hit him in the helmet and he also took a knee to the jaw. He felt better Monday than he did after Sunday's game and hopes to avoid being placed on the 7-day concussion DL, but it's still up in the air at this point. Orlando Calixte is on the Giants' taxi squad in case they need to make a move.

Ben Zobrist was pinch-hit for in the eighth inning Monday because his ailing left wrist still bothers him when he bats right-handed.

Zobrist returned to the lineup with the Padres starting righty Jarred Cosart, but his wrist didn't feel up to facing lefty Brad Hand. He's expected to be back in the lineup Tuesday against right-hander Dinelson Lamet, but it sounds like Zobrist might be benched for a bit when the opponent starts a left-hander.

Angels transferred LHP Tyler Skaggs from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Eric Young. It doesn't change Skaggs' timetable, as he's resumed throwing but is still multiple weeks away from a return from a strained oblique.

Hunter Renfroe launched a grand slam Monday in the Padres' 5-2 win over the Cubs.

The four-run shot off Kyle Hendricks in the bottom of the fourth inning gave San Diego the lead for good. Renfroe has been highly productive in May and now has 10 home runs and 24 RBI in 52 total games this year. The 25-year-old outfielder should continue to provide useful fantasy value in the power departments.

Angels purchased the contract of OF Eric Young Jr. from Triple-A Salt Lake.

Young was off to a .354/.419/.528 start with five homers and 15 steals for Salt Lake. He's starting in left field Monday and could see some playing time there while Mike Trout (thumb) is out, although the bulk of the at-bats figure to go to Ben Revere.
May 29 - 8:18 PM

Brandon Maurer picked up his seventh save Monday in the Padres' defeat of the Cubs.

Maurer struck out Kyle Schwarber and induced pop-outs from Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo to seal the victory for San Diego. It was the second save in as many days for Maurer, though he still holds an unsightly 6.00 ERA.
