Francisco Cervelli went 2-for-4 with an RBI single in Saturday's win over the Reds.

Cervelli has registered two-hit games in three of the last four, raising his overall line to .321/.438/.385. He's still looking for his first homer, but the catcher has 12 RBI and 11 runs scored batting in the middle of the Pirates' lineup.

David Freese went 2-for-4 with a run scored Saturday against the Reds.

Freese now has multi-hit games in three of his last six contests. A late signing by the Pirates, the third baseman has been one of the team's best hitters through the month of April, batting .293/.387/.402 with a home run, nine RBI and 15 runs scored. Even when Jung Ho Kang returns in a few days, Freese should still find his way into the lineup with regularity as long as he continues to produce.

Friday's MRI revealed that Shin-Soo Choo's strained calf is 80 percent healed.

He's hoping to begin a rehab assignment in the next two weeks. That puts him on track to rejoin the Rangers during the third week of May. "I want to be back early, but I have to listen to my body," said Choo. "We still have five months left in the season." Rookie Nomar Mazara has been filling in for Choo at right field.

Alfredo Simon lasted only four innings in Saturday's loss to the Pirates, allowing six hits and walking four.

Simon needed 98 pitches to get through his four innings. Simon has now failed to last five innings in three of his four starts this year, and he went only five in the other. Not surprisingly, the 34-year-old has a 13.50 ERA and 2.85 WHIP on the year. The Reds aren't going anywhere this season, but they might be better served to give a young pitcher a chance to see what he can do instead of running Simon out there every fifth day.
Apr 30 - 10:39 PM

John Jaso hit his first home run of the season Saturday against the Reds.

Jaso attacked the first pitch of the game from Reds starter Alfredo Simon, ripping it out to right center to give the Bucs an early lead. It may have been his first home run of the year, but Jaso has been a catalyst atop the Pirates' lineup from the outset. The first baseman is hitting .316/.389/.456 with seven RBI and 10 runs scored through Saturday's game.

Freddy Galvis went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI to help the Phillies top the Indians 4-3 on Saturday.

Galvis took Indians starter Trevor Bauer deep for a two-run shot in the first inning, but it was his RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that proved to be the difference in the game. Galvis now has three home runs, 10 RBI and 10 runs scored to go with a .233/.264/.419 line through 23 games.
Apr 30 - 10:31 PM

Lonnie Chisenhall went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base Saturday against the Phillies.

Making his first start after missing two games with a neck strain, Chisenhall enjoyed his best game yet. He doubled among his three hits and stole his first base of the season. Through seven games played, the 27-year-old is batting .227/.227/.364.
Apr 30 - 10:30 PM

Darin Ruf had a double and a run scored in Saturday's win over the Indians.

The double was Ruf's first extra-base hit since April 17. It's been that kind of year for the 29-year-old, who's hitting just .206 with a .521 OPS to date. He's still without a homer after hitting 12 last season.
