Raul Ibanez went 2-for-4 with an RBI double and a run scored in a win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

Ibanez' RBI double started the scoring in what would be a four-run sixth inning for the Royals. He had been 4-for-35 in his Royals tenure prior to Tuesday's two-hit game. With the club still holding out Wild Card aspirations and Ibanez going nowhere but down, it wouldn't be surprising to see the team make a move to replace the 42-year-old in the coming weeks.

Nick Martinez held the Yankees scoreless over 5 1/3 innings but took a no-decision as the Rangers needed 14 innings to lose by a 2-1 margin.

Martinez stymied the Yankees, limiting them to only three hits and a walk while striking out three. He left with one out in the sixth, and 67 pitches, after walking Brett Gardner. Martinez's stats aren't pretty, as he owns a 4.73 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 32/32 K/BB ratio. He'll try to improve them all when he takes on the Athletics at home on Sunday.

Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases in Tuesday's loss to the Royals.

Ramirez surprised everyone by stealing 30 bases last season, and his two thefts on Tuesday gives him 17 steals on the year. The All-Star's two hits helped to raise his season line to .281/.318/.395.

Kelly Johnson will undergo an MRI after leaving Tuesday's game against the Rangers with a groin injury.

It's been a bad 24 hours for Johnson, as the groin ailment was preceded by the Yankees acquiring Chase Headley to take over at third base. The Bombers should have an update on Johnson's condition on Wednesday.

Chase Whitley held the Rangers scoreless over six innings, but was given a no-decision on Tuesday.

Whitley was excellent on Tuesday, a rare bright spot for the young right-hander. The Rangers scratched out seven hits, but six were singles. Whitley did not issue a walk and struck out six in the process. Whitley still carries an ugly 4.60 ER along with a 1.45 WHIP, and 46/12 K/BB ratio. He'll make his next start against the Blue Jays at home on Sunday.

The Cardinals are considering starting Shelby Miller on Saturday against the Cubs.

Miller was moved to the bullpen immediately following the All-Star break and made a relief appearance Sunday, but the Cards still view him as a starter over the long haul. However, they could still opt to keep him in the 'pen and start Carlos Martinez Saturday.
Jul 23 - 12:12 AM

Bruce Chen held the White Sox to one run over five innings in a win Tuesday.

Chen's only mistake was a home run by Adam Dunn, but the left-hander limited the Sox to four hits and no runs over the rest of his time on the mound. It was his first win since April 19 and just his second win overall. Chen has filled in admirably in Jason Vargas' absence, but with Vargas nearing a return Chen will soon fade back into fantasy irrelevance.
Jul 23 - 12:11 AM

Joakim Soria blew his second save of the season, forking over a run in the bottom of the 13th inning as the Rangers went on to lose in 14.

The Rangers had taken a 1-0 lead on J.P. Arencibia's 13th-inning solo home run, but Soria immediately got into trouble, allowing a lead-off double to Brett Gardner in the bottom half. Jacoby Ellsbury later knocked Gardner in with a single. Soria is now 17-for-19 in save chances with a 2.70 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and a 42/4 K/BB ratio.
