Leonys Martin (hamstring) took batting practice Tuesday.

Martin landed on the disabled list last week with a strained left hamstring, but he's making quick progress. He should be ready to return when he's first eligible on June 10.

Indians recalled RHP Shawn Armstrong from Triple-A Columbus.

Armstrong, 25, owns a 2.50 ERA and 30/17 K/BB ratio over 18 innings this season in Triple-A. He'll give the Indians a fresh arm in their bullpen.
May 31 - 1:56 PM

Indians optioned LHP Ryan Merritt to Triple-A Columbus.

Merritt shined in his major league debut Monday against the Rangers, allowing just one hit over 4 1/3 scoreless innings. Unfortunately, his reward is a return trip to the minors.
May 31 - 1:54 PM

Travis d'Arnaud (shoulder) could begin a minor league rehab assignment this weekend.

D'Arnaud, who has been out since late April with a strained right rotator cuff, resumed baseball activities last week in Florida. The big test will be game action. Assuming he can avoid setbacks, the Mets could send Kevin Plawecki to Triple-A upon his return and keep Rene Rivera as the backup.
May 31 - 1:47 PM

Brewers claimed RHP Neil Ramirez off waivers from the Cubs.

Ramirez was designated for assignment 10 days ago and he'll end up staying in the division. The 27-year-old has walked eight batters in just 7 2/3 innings in the majors this season and has an injury history, but he's a worthwhile flyer for a rebuilding team.
May 31 - 1:36 PM

According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca, Cuban outfielder Alexei Bell requested his unconditional release from the Quintana Roo Tigres in Mexico.

Bell was batting .171 (6-for-35) with one homer and two doubles over nine games in the Mexican League. The 32-year-old was reportedly declared a free agent last week and is free to sign with any team. He will now work out privately for teams instead of showcasing himself in game action.
May 31 - 1:33 PM

Colby Rasmus is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

He'll take a seat against left-hander Patrick Corbin. Carlos Gomez is back in center field Tuesday while Jake Marisnick will start in left.
May 31 - 1:16 PM

The Orioles are expected to call up Francisco Pena from Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday.

He'll take the roster spot of Caleb Joseph, who will be placed on the 15-day disabled list with a groin injury. Pena, 26, is batting .200/.241/.250 over 87 plate appearances in Triple-A this season.
