Mike Moustakas hit a pair of solo home runs, two of four Royals homers on the night, in a 7-2 win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Moustakas did his work against the Sox bullpen, victimizing David Holmberg and Brad Goldberg for the solo blasts in the sixth and eighth innings, respectively. Don't look now, but the 28-year-old is second in the American League with his 28 homers, and his 62 RBI also rank among the league's best. That's very good news for the impending free agent, who is setting himself up to get paid handsomely this winter.

Melky Cabrera went a perfect 4-for-4 with an RBI double and a home run in Saturday's loss to the Royals.

Cabrera had Royals starter Jason Vargas' number, swatting a solo homer off him in the third inning before knocking an RBI double in the fifth. The runs were the only two the Sox would muster on the evening. In the midst of a wasteland of a season for the club, Cabrera has quietly had a terrific offensive year, batting .296/.340/.446 with 13 homers, 56 RBI and 52 runs scored. Given those numbers, it wouldn't be shocking to see the 32-year-old free agent-to-be dealt before the trade deadline, but there hasn't been much smoke around Cabrera to date.

Evan Gattis went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a win over the Orioles on Saturday.

He singled and scored in the fifth, then came to the plate with the bases loaded in the ninth and delivered an RBI single. The career .254 batter has a nice .292 batting average this year with 10 homers and 42 RBI in 59 games.
Jul 23 - 12:51 AM

Collin McHugh gave up four runs in 4 2/3 innings while making his season debut against the Orioles on Saturday.

He made it through the first four innings allowing one hit and no runs but then fell apart in the fifth. He allowed a pair of two-run homers in that frame, one to Adam Jones and the other to Jonathan Schoop. McHugh struck out four and walked two in the outing. He had missed the entire season before today with an elbow injury. The Astros' starting rotation will be rather crowded when ace Dallas Keuchel returns to action in the coming days. McHugh will face the Tigers on the road on Friday.

Salvador Perez hit a two-run home run in a win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Perez took Sox reliever David Holmberg deep in the sixth inning, the first of three homers -- also the front end of back-to-back jacks from Perez and Mike Moustakas -- in the inning. The homer was the 19th of the year for Perez, who has a very modest six-game hitting streak going. On the year, the 27-year-old is batting a healthy .284/.314/.523 in 88 games.
Jul 23 - 12:46 AM

Brandon Moss hit his 12th home run of the year in Saturday's win over the White Sox.

White Sox reliever David Holmberg was the whipping boy in this one, serving up back-to-back shots to Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas before giving up Moss's dong two batters later. The homer was the second in the past four games for the 33-year-old, who's 7-for-16 in that four-game span. Moss also stealthily stole his second base of the year in Saturday's game. He's a streaky hitter, but we'll need to see a lot more games like that before we even consider Moss and his .208 batting average for fantasy purposes.
Jul 23 - 12:42 AM

Brad Brach was used in a non-save situation on Saturday and allowed two runs -- one earned -- on three hits.

He was brought in to pitch the ninth inning with his team trailing by two runs. He surrendered three singles and a sacrifice fly. One of the runs was unearned thanks to an error by third baseman Manny Machado. Brach has served as the team's closer for most of the season while Zach Britton recovered from an injury. Brach has 16 saves, a 2.76 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 43 1/3 innings.
Jul 23 - 12:37 AM

Adam Jones belted a two-run dinger during a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

His blast off starter Collin McHugh was his only hit of the night in four chances. His team could manage only four base hits all night. Jones has a .266 batting average with 18 home runs and 49 RBI on the season.
